I'm taking orthotricyclen & have been for about 9 months.. It's worked well for me (obviously, because i'm not pregnant). I was just wondering if it is considered a low dose birth control or what.. I started out trying some low dose BC, but i continued to bleed none stop while on it.. That's when my dr. switched me to Orthotricyclen.. I'm still having pretty bad cramps & atleast 6 day periods, which i thought was supposed to stop once it go in your system... Is that true? Does it sound like i should i need a higher dose BC? (I know i should ask my dr. this, but dont have the time to get an appointment anytime soon)Thanks for listening to me ramble! =)

They make 2 types: Ortho Tri Cyclen and Ortho Tri Cyclen Low. My OB will not prescribe either b/c he knows that Ortho Tri Cyclen has the highest failure rate among all birth control pills especially if you miss a dose. I also know several people who got pregnant on this particular pill. You should switch to something else.

No, it really isn't. You need to find the dosage right for you and you may have to switch from time to time as your body changes. OTCyclen makes a Low-Dose version and there are a zillion other birth control pills out there that use low-doses of hormones (and some that use alternative hormones). Work with your doc to see what's right for you.

Oh, and switching birth control might not be effectively immediately. It might take a few months before your body fully adjusts.

I was on Orthotricyclen for 10 years. I had 7 day periods, cramps, mood swings. But, I never got pregnant while on the pill.

yes, I was on that. it is a low hormone birth control. It didnt make my periods any shorter. And I never got cramps until I was on the pill-but I didnt start on this kind-orthtricyclen was the second kind I had used because the first was to strong. So I think the pill can help some people with cramps, but not everyone.

i switched from orthotryciclen to ortho-low. the low worked better, but then i had issues with that, and switch to yasmin(low dose) and i had an easier time. less cramping, and bleeding. better sex drive. but every body is different. you should really discuss this with your doctor.
