That is an complicated question and deserves an complicated answer. It is both yes and no. Yes, it is protecting children who get abused by parents and guardians by beating them excessively and leaving marks. However, spankings used as discipline and not harm, (no marks are left), to the child, the law is actualy harming because Parents are no longer in control, they give up they don't know how to teach their child how to behave. Time outs do work, but not for every child every time. Sometimes a quick spanking on the bottom lets the child know they are misbehaving and to stop the behavior. Spankings should never be used in anger or cause injury or eave a mark. Spankings should never be use first, instructing the child to stop the behavior is always the first step, but we all know children with push the limits. It is a way for them to test the boundaries parents put on them.

I think car seat laws and anti-smoking laws are protecting our children. I think there is a boundary where the government needs to stay out of people's business, for instance the new anti-spanking law. I think the intent behind it is sincere but I don't think it is going to do the children any good to have parents in jail for spanking them.

I think each law needs to be weighed carefully for it's pros and cons.

Most of the laws that are supposedly to protect children aren't. They are simply the actions of a govenrment that has no right to do so telling people that they aren't intelliget enough to make decisions regarding their own children so it has to be done for them. It should be solely and wholly up to the parent to decide what a child is and isn't allowed to do, how they should be punished for doing, or not doing such things, and at what age they are allowed to do things and on one else.

Needed Laws To Protect Our Children:
1. Anyone convicted of a violent crime will be shot the following morning. Thus creating a more peaceful society
2. All non-Americans will be deported. They are all about crime.
3. Anyone convicted of kidnapping will be shot the following morning as well as the convicts immediate family.
4. Something has to be done to stop the population explosion, which is your childs biggest problem. Only one child per couple.
