We just set up high-speed internet service. We have upgraded to the most recent XP Service Pack, which included a firewall. We are also set up to get automatic updates to XP as they become available. If you have any freeware firewall suggestions, please pass them along. Thanks!

You do not want 2 firewalls running. After installing ZA, make sure Windows Firewall is off by visiting your "Security Center" in "Control Panel."

Never ever trust Microsoft or any Microsoft product under any circumstances whatsoever. I have Ubuntu Linux installed on another partition because Windows can turn against you at any given time without reason or perhaps its master the evil overlord Bill Gates has decided that your computer was running too smoothly. Don't trust the windows update website. Remember the windows genuine advantage spyware that you no doubt have on your computer already like most of the other trusting fools. Yeah I don't have that because I get my security updates from http://www.autopatcher.com/. I very nearly forgot to tell you what firewall you should use. I suggest you use Zonealarm Security Suite. It is pretty well put together and covers all of your security needs. You should of course have a redundant program for each and every function of the Zonealarm Security Suite in case it slips up.

If there are multiple computers that are hooked up then your best bet is to use a router with a built in firewall. Physical firewalls are always better than software firewalls. If not, then just don't worry about it. You can take the extra precaution of getting AdAware and SPYBOT Search & Destroy to help you with scheduled checks to make sure all is well. But keep in mind that these are passive measures and not active ones.

Also you can try to use HiJackThis if and only if you know what you are doing.

Other than that AVG is a very good antivirus program that is free.

Trendmicro.com is also a good resource for on-line scans of your PC.

Anyone who has used windows for any length of time will tell you to not trust your computer just to windows security options. I have no doubt that windows firewall was made by the best minds at microsoft but I would suggest that if you have anything on your computer that you are worried about somebody else getting then you should probably get a more secure firewall than windows

You should not trust Microsoft firewall alone even if they are constanly updating their software as we know that hackers mostly focus on Microsoft product as it is widely used by most computer users. You can add a router with built-in firewall so you have 2 defense against any attack, software firewall from Microsoft and a physical firewall from your router.

Do not add another software based firewall together with Microsoft as it will just going to clash and not give you any defense at all. If you chose to use another software based firewall, make sure that you disabled microsoft's firewall first before installing the third party software.

i take advantage of abode windows firewall. this is solid adequate. despite you get, dont get Comodo. Comodo is nuisanceware, and had issues remembering my purposes and has way too many controls than what a firewall desires and is a lot overprotective in my view. and prefer Daniel says hackers can discover their way around any of them in the event that they are solid adequate. in case you opt to work out what proportion incoming and outgoing pings you acquire in an afternoon, that's someplace interior the 1000's, then get that junk *** firewall. what's particularly significant is having a solid antivirus and a solid antspyware software, no longer what proportion websites are pinging your pc. Comodo is organic crapware, it isnt very well worth the headache.

by having one firewall you are not protected properly, as hackers can still break there way through. by having more than one firewall your computer is to have a less chance of being hacked.
