i turned it on this morning, and it loaded up fine, went in to word and typed and the keyboard is fine too. does this mean that no damage was caused?

The water has probably created a short on the hard drive connections, it will need to be dried fully before it can work. Best take it to a PC repair shop, explain the situation, if possible watch them do it, it shouldn't take much unless the hard drive has water in it. Reason being that some people will make up a load of stuff to make you pay more money. Don't open it up yourself though as if you don't know what you're doing it can be very dangerous. Also most fabrics etc are static & can damage the circuits. Also heating up plastics & circuit boards is probably harmful as they contain flame retardants etc which produce very toxic fumes when heated above a certain temperature.

If the hard disk has crashed, and after drying out the laptop the error doesn't go away, you could buy a new one for not that much money. They aren't that difficult to install either (depending on the type of laptop you have). Search the internet for instructions for the particular type of laptop.
I had to get a new hard drive for my laptop and installed it myself without any trouble. I think it was only $40.00
Good luck!

All you can do is to try to dry it out and see if it still works.
Try to find a fairly warm place to put it for a few days. One place that stays fairly warm is the top of a refrigerator. That might help.
If you want to accelerate the drying, you could put it in the oven. Set the oven to as low a setting as is possible and put the laptop in for two or three hours. Temps of 125 to 150 degrees F won't hurt the laptop at all.
Hope this helps.

Oh dear........ Switch the laptop off , no power is better , then blow a hairdryer over it . Prehaps you should start thinking about how to tell your boyfriend the truth... sorry cant help. Maybe you left a disc (floppy disk in ) the computer as I feel that may be the error apart from the water... Best of luck ...

Hope that there is no circuit damage yet. Try to use a compressed air and try to blow all the water out from the laptop and let it air dry for a couple of days and see if it boots up properly.
If you have warranty or insurance, call them and let them open/fix the laptop to check for any damages.
Good Luck!

there is some hope that it will work.
do not put it on too soon.
remove battery.
remove anything else you can .
keep it open.
put it where it can dry easily, eg near a radiator or fan.
wait a few days.
it may then work.
good luck.
