Why do Americans think that they are so good? Everwhere I go in the world there is always at least one American. They always tell me, or the world in general, how good America is and how we or the rest of the world are do things wrong. Last time I met one in this country he said how we all drove on the wrong side of the road. We were driving on the correct side of the road for the last 2000 years for fucccs sake! Do you know any Americans? Are they like this?

I was borne in the US, lived in Miami-Florida for seven years, before that, in south America and I recently move out of Florida for good to the UK(London), and now, I look back to those 7 years, and even though I did my professional career there, I feel, they were the 7 worst years of my live (social wise), because of this capitalistic systems I did not have many friends, everybody was busy, did not have a real girlfriend cause I did not have money to show and people saw me like I was a rat because I was poor “the more you have, the better you are” and also in the US if you can only pursue a university degree when you come from a very wealthy family or live in debt for the rest of your life and if you become sick, you either have to have an insurance (very expensive if not paid by employer) or live in debt for the rest of your live.

I think in the US, there is a strong culture to work but no culture to socialise with others, for example Drs see you as a number $ more than as a patient, I don’t want to generalise, but I think the US system (media and government) changes people into working machines and blocks their minds from what is outside, most of the people I met there think that the US is the best country in every single way, without even visiting other countries, well I don’t blame then , with the little time off we had in Florida as listed on linked below, there is not time to visit any other countries, and also only a very little amount of Americans have a passport. please see attachments below.

Well, something else, I realize when I was travelling around Europe and south America, I noticed that most of Americans did not make any effort to a least speak the most common or used word in other languages and expect everybody to speak English as once a girl from Chicago told me “we are leaving the globalisation so everybody needs to speak English”

In the other hand I think that economic wise US is great country , my parents are doing financially very well so is my brother and most of the people I know, but unfortunately all the money they make and have, cant not even be enjoyed. I truly respect you opinion but I think that WE as “Americans” should see the world equally, change our minds, not because we are richest and have the economical power we have the right to abuse others and impose our system, ethics and moral in other countries as they have their own and we should respect that.

They are brainwashed from birth to think that the US is the greatest country on earth, with the greatest people, and the only place that has 'freedom'(!). It is a big country, and of their hour-long news broadcasts, only five minutes is devoted to news from abroad, so most of them have a woefully small knowledge of the rest of the world.

Only a very small percentage of Americans have a passport. When they do travel outside the US, they get a big shock. They realise that some countries are, in fact, quite civilised, with rather better food, historical sites, art and culture than home. Some Americans are pleasant, easy-going, and prepared to learn and enjoy this new-found knowledge; others continue to deny it and arrogantly maintain that they are the only civilised nation because this is what they have been taught.

I was a travel agent in London and I met a lot of Americans. A few ended up as personal friends, others were horrible. (Remember the one on Fawlty Towers?!) Some are worringly ignorant of polite behaviour. Many of those who can afford to travel are either students on a shoe-string or rich elderly ones. Either can have closed minds, or be lovely.

I am an American, we have been taught from birth that this is the greatest country in the world. So as I grew older and began to travel I was astonished to find almost every other country teach their children the same thing,, it is called national pride.

Don't get me wrong I love my country and am a veteran. (meaning I once took a vow that I would risk my life to defend my country)

The more I travel, the older and wiser I get the more I realize we are ALL human we all have hopes, dreams, fears, arrogance's and flaws. We all love our children and long for a better life. Perhaps you should come to America and get to know some real people not just the few you run into or see on television.

I am American so obviously I know some. Some people here do think they know everything and also the only why is their way, but you have to understand their are people like that in every country you travel too. I am in college and I stay on campus where we have a high number of International students. I can see that only a few American students choose to interact with the foreign students. I really don't care if maybe half of my friends happen to be international, as long as they are nice and respect me, I will try to treat them the same.

Very narrow minded!
I have ran into many people from all over the world. Just because one of them said this and that I would never base my opinion of that whole country just on this one encounter.

Since yahoo is a American company and you are on a American site, you may want to go somewhere else if you think we are to good for you (or um we think we are so much better then you).....Posibly to a site that was made in your country so you can bash anyone you would like.....

BTW what country our you from, did not mention this...Why?

not all Americans are like that you probably just ran into a few really snobby ones. sorry about that. I'm American and i don't think that America is better than every where else. i actually like some foreign countries better.one reason they might of said that is because their not used to the new place their in.

im an american and i dont think like that, america has its problems but we also have good things too like any other country. dont stereotype us all!!!!!!!!

also a lot of us tend to look at things the way the government does, i hate how our government tries to shove democracy down everyones throats, our government thinks our way of doing something is the only right way. i mean i dont like communism but i understand it, i like socialism the best it is a mix of both in a way, i wanna live in a country like that!!!!
