A Clockwork Orange's most striking feature is in the way it is written. The dialect and writing style of the author is completely cutting edge for the time, and makes for a very lucid character study of the narrator.

It was a really great book.

Before - Intrigued......what an unusual name, thought I. What could this book be about? Normally, cover of book is quite as striking as it's title.

The first few pages are a wee bit befuddling with all the strange words and names for things but as you get used to them it is the very language which draws you into the book. And as you read on you are drawn into Alex's world with his droogs and pointless life of petty violence. It reading about that violence through Alex's equanimity is shocking. However, his Aversion Therapy Treatment is equally as shocking although you can't help but wonder that it mightn't be worth a shot for extremely violent criminals. However, using Beethoven, his beloved music to do the job is especially cruel.

An ironic twist of fate returns Alex to very house of the man whose life he ruined. Now, sympathy, empathy as well fear are all emotions that rise to surface. But hey theese are all my emotions!

Why not just read the book? It's short and a very good read. If not watch Stanley Kubrick's film version of the book. Or just read the summary at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clockwork_orange

Actually it was a weird book but a great movie. If you like reading stuff like this though, you might want to try Ken Kesey's ELECTRIC ACID KOOLAID TEST which is about how he and a few of his buddies(one of whom was Timothy Leary) toured the country in a tie-dyed VW bus. Great read.
