A Supreme Court Justice is appointed for life, The Justice must step down or something must happens that deems him/her incapable of carrying on. The latter prosepect is very murky in terms of proof of incapablilty.

They are appointed by the residing president for "Life".
That is probably a big mistake. No one should stay in
office that long but they can resign due to bad health
or other circumstances which they rarely do>
