Actually, in places where it is LEGAL, it IS taxed. AND several women of my acquaintence that work in the industry in places where it isn't legal have mentioned that they HAVE had irs problems becasue of it. NO illegal money making venture is actually taxed (drug dealers don't pay taxes either, neither do people involved in loan sharking, human trafficking, or illegal gambling), but if the irs gets wind of it, they will come after the person and there will be financial repurcussions, and often jail time.
So it isn't being treated like a religion, but because it is illegal, there is no way to regulate it. IF they legalized it in all the states then there would be a huge tax revenue genmerated from it, plus the problems associated with it (drugs, underage girls, diseases) would all but disappear.

It should be taxed. The prostitutes are making hundreds of dollars and prostitution should be taxed. Actually, prostitution should be banned/abolished.

In las Vegas you collect taxes for prostitution, but no where else, honestley I think if ur a hooker, u dont deserve to collect taxes
