Why did the make it kinda sad? Three main characters die and some of them lose their powers by getting the cure.

I meant to say "they" not "the".

Three main characters died?

Cyclops - they found his glasses. Did they even find his corpse?
Professor X - His corpse was destroyed (or so it appeared), but did you not see the post credits part? Also, Phoenix has bizarre powers and what is destroyed, may actually come to exist elsewhere.
Jean/Phoenix - Phoenix has uber powers, so count her back in somehow.

Character lose their powers? Did you not see the end where Magneto was regaining his ability? I was thinking that the cure was temporary. This would be a great way for Rogue to gain her invicibility and/or flight powers - perhaps she is touching another person with some/both of these powers thinking she has lost her power to steal, but then suddenly her power comes back and she's unable to stop touching quickly enough and absorbs the powers indefinitely.

What was really sad was the movie as a whole. I thought it was lame that they brought back Jean and then "killed her off" again in the same movie; that was a tad too quick. That and they "killed off" three main heroes in one film reeked of few and poor ideas. I thought the style of the film was not nearly as realistic (or as good in general) as the first two, part of which I thought made the first two so good.

There was so much about this movie that could have been better, but alas, not much can be done about this now. Marvel really screwed the pooch by not hanging on to Singer. The first two really set a new standard for comic adaptations. Hopefully X3 hasn't reset that... Here's to the next Batman - hopefully without a love interest for once.

part of it is from the story line of the comics. And if you've read the comics you'll remember X-men never really die. Just like Toad said in the first movie "Don't you people ever die?"
If/When they make another movie, Scott will be back.. probably saved by Sinister, Xavier will be back, Jean will be back. The cure doesn't work at the end of the movie Magneto had his powers and after the credits Xavier's mind was in the body of the guy on Muir Island

If you've ever read comics, you'd know that main characters die all the time and come back to life. They lose powers, gain powers, change powers--sometimes change races as happened with one X-man that went from British to Asian.

IF they bring back any of the CHARACTERS for the 4th, they can now use different ACTORS--save some $$'s and it all makes sense in the movie world.

Because who ever wrote the script sucks ballz. That is NOT the true X-Men.

Those horrible movies are bastardized versions of Chris Claremont's Dark Phoenix saga which the movies ruined.

I consider those fake X-Men an alternate version from a parallel dimension from another timeline where atrocious writing prevails.

I have no idea. Maybe to give it some pathos.
Besides, did you know it's not really the last stand? They're making a fourth. And perhaps the powers might be returned to them somehow or another, you never know.

i dont know why so many people died but if u pay very close attention at the ned when Magneto is sitting in the park playing chess, one of the METAL pawns move when he puts his hand over it so obviously the cure only works for so long!

To add more depth to the movie, so it wouldn't be just another comic book action movie.
