Because the dates the doctor first gives you is just based of the date of you last period..which is only really an estimate.....the sonogram actually is based of the develpolment of the baby and is a more accurate date....
I ask the doc whe my wife and I seen a different date.

Your doctor goes by what you report to be the first day of your last period and they assume that you have a 28 day cycle. Some women can't remember the exact date of their last period and not all women have a 28 day cycle.
On the otherhand, the sonogram goes by the baby's measurement. Babies measure a particular size depending on how far along you are in pregnancy so it gives you a date. The sonogram is more accurate than the date yoru doctor gives you.

depends on the development of the baby. Sonogram may show baby is more or less developed than your "guesstimated" due date which is formed from the 1st day of your last period. Not everybody is on a 28 day cycle so you might not have ovulated at exactly 14days and therefore you may not have gotten pregnant at that time. Perhaps you ovulated on the 17th day, so pregnancy occured on the 17th or 18th ... they will change how many days that baby has been forming in there. Due dates are never an exact science ... except if you plan a c-section. Naturally the only person who knows the actual day of birth is the baby growing inside. He/She will make a debut when he/she is well and ready :)

My due date and sonogram due date is only a 2 day difference. I think your more accurate date is your LMP. Some babies can get pretty big size wise so that doesn't mean your further along.
26 weeks with my first!

Sonograms are based on the size of the baby... the doctors due date is based on the first day of your last period, not the conception date.

The doctor bases the due date on the last day of your period. If you aren't sure, or just guess, it won't be accurate. The 10 week ultrasound is a dating ultrasound. They measure the baby and can give you an estimate within a day or two....

Ultrasound dating is most accurate very early (like 9ish weeks). The later you go, the less accurate it is. Your doctor's calculation is only accurate if you have "traditional" 28-day cycles. The best way to calculate a due date is based on ovulation and/or conception date.

Because they go by size. I knew all my dates from day one so my doc couldnt tell me different. All babies grow differently so I would just go by what the doc says if you have your dates right. He said I was a week behind according to the sonogram, but I knew I wasn't. Now I measure just right!

because he goes by the date of your lmp and the sonogram is going by measurements. my baby is measuring 27 weeks and my due date is may 3rd which would make me 26 weeks and some days. so i just say between april 23rd and may 3rd.

b/c sonograms go by length and weight of the baby...they're not usually the most accurate way to tell...baby's grow up differently...
my baby girl was a whole week ahead of herself in terms of her growth, but the due date told me due to my last period was accurate to the day...she was just a big baby
