Every time I sing I get this flat dead voice from using my throat voice. any tips?

These are all good answers. However, sugarbaby's answer isn't explained all that well (no offense, what you said could just be taken differently from what you expect). When you breath in, your shoulders should NOT move. This means that the air is goin to your chest...not good. You can't store as much air and apply as much pressure. Once you fill up your diaphram (feel the section just under your ribs expand), then take a last little breath into your chest, but don't let your shoulders rise.

Fill the lungs with air raise the chest, then sing letting out a little air as you sing.

When you breathe in, let it fill lower than usual- push out your belly and sing from deeper to hit those loud notes.

practice breathing with your hand on your stomach.... if you can make your hand move... you are breathing from your diaphram.... now sing using the exhaled air that makes your hand move

Try to force out your stomach
