China already is a superpower. I think the next country to step up to bat will be India.

The US economy is not "steadily declining", it is steadily growing in both output and productivity and widening its wealth gap over both Europe and Japan. Have no idea what you're thinking about there.

China is a reasonable candidate for "next superpower" but there won't just be one -- obviously the US will remain a superpower as far as the eyes can see. But by mid century it's entirely possible that India will be more promising than China.

Considering demographics, it's clear that the 3 nations that matter this century are US, China, and India, while Japan and Europe are certain to decline. China, however, is demographically challenged also, due to its One Child policy, and may become old before it becomes rich (to quote Mark Steyn).
It therefore may be a bit of a disappointment as a new superpower.

PS. to Giraffe -- Russia is NOT pure capitalist, it is a deeply corrupt kleptocracy. Russia is certain to experience rapid decline in coming decades as its people quickly die off and its population plunges, no matter what Czar Putin does. Not a pretty situation. It will likely as not lose most of its landmass to China.

China, but as to how much of a superpower will depend on their military.

They have been known to use spies to gain significant military technology (I'm sure we did as well), although they have not been able to get their hands on our most prized weapons (nuclear submarines, blackhawk, ect...). They are controlling their economy perfectly, better than us. The one thing they lack (which will come in time) is creativity. I think people underestimate the creativity the the American people have. The u.s. promotes this more than any other country. We have many innovators and entrepreneurs, which gives us a big advantage.
They will not be able to catch the u.s military-wise, but will be able to be on par or surpass us in most other things.

Russia.

I've always saw growth and power with Capitalism. Since the fall of Communist Russia (USSR), we're seeing Russia being the most pure Capitalistic community. This should develope to surpass the USA (Socialist boardering Communist ) and China (Communist).

However, China may down shift and find that working as a more Socialist like the USA giving her an advantage. However, politics seem to favor keeping China Communist which will be her downfall.

It's going to be Red China. It;'s a simple equation:

(Greed + No Rule of Law + Racism + Exploitable Workforce) - Ethics = Superpower.

Don't buy Chinese goods.
