Depends where you are and what you need. If all you need is a tower you should be able to find one for under six hundred. If you want the bundle your looking at least nine hundred or more depending on what you want. Look online at computer shops but make sure you know what you want. Do research online and take time to read up on what is the best bang for your buck, make sure you understand what you need and what you don't.
Watch out for Dell or other similar companies, they start off cheap but you have to add on things that are not included and they'll tell you should upgrade some things, suddenly it becomes quite expensive.
Remember to research and know what to look for, there's no use getting something that was new three years ago.

i can tell you right now that it will be difficult to find a new computer with a cd burner/dvd player on it for 500-600 dollars. try looking around on ebay or anywhere else you can buy used computers. anything will be a step up from what you had. if you are only going to use for cds, dvds, and the internet, you really dont need that much so a used computer might actually be perfect for you. good luck!

....... i'm not sure what country your'e in,.... but in australia,.... $1,500........ is about the bare minimum you'll need,.... otherwise it's going to be to underpowered,. and slow,. to link onto web site's..... If your'e going to get a reasonably good one,.... a minimum 1 Gg RAM,.. &.... 100 Gg Hard drive,... will go well.... And couple it with a 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo.... processer,.... and 256 MB Graphic's,.... and that will cover everything from Web Surfing,. all the way up to high speed gaming...... It wont get you " HOT BLISTERING!".. speed gaming,... but you'll you'll get good top speed's none the less.... Buy it new, even if the model is from last year or the previous year,.... and pay the $200 for a 3 year warranty instead of 1yr,. and you'll cover yourself against any expensive repair's that could occur....WINDOW's is bringing a new computer system out now called " VISTA ",... so by the time your 3 yr warranty is up,... you can either trade your computer in,... or simply convert your system over to VISTA.... Im not to sure what you would be seeking for a desk top computer,... ( though these specification's, would work there well to ) ..... but for a lap top,... these spec's,.. will get you plenty of speed and power!.... Also,... avoid buying budget computer's,... powered by SEMPRON,... CELERON,... or .. CENTRINO, processor's... They're o.k. for basic, to standard stuff,... but beyond that,... they just can't cut it with the speedy stuff..... These cheaper processer's are just to underpowered,. and way to slow..... Toshiba's,. and Compaq's,. are pretty good brand's, though im not to familiar with the other's,... but if yuh do your homework and hunt around,.. i'm sure you'll be able to find yourself a good one... Hope this help's,.. and Good Luck!...
