I've heard stories about them,I have some arab friends,they are nice and all,but........I don't know,I wouldn't like to be treated bad or make me stand behind them with no opinions,we're living in a different world now.

I don't have anything against them,in fact,I would like to marry one some day,I like their culture and everything.

I am married to an Arab man that was born in an Arab country. Not all Arab men abuse women. There is a great difference in the men raised as Muslim Shi'ite or Muslim Sunni and then the Arab Christians. then there are differences in the Arab men from each country and part of the country. Then the age generation and social status has something to do with their actions. My husband treats me well though there are certain areas in our relationship that we need to work on that are very different in both of our views. I am fortunate to have a man that has an open mind and I am also willing to reason with my husband on some of the areas that concern him or me. Jealousy is a very high problem with all Arab men and this area I try to be more sensitive as to help him with this area. I do respect my husband in this area by not setting myself up to alone with another man. Which I think is good practice for most women that are married anyways. Just remember that many of the Arabs have stereo typed Americans by the music artist they see on TV (Madonna, for example) and think we are all like that as well until they come here and live among us. You have some 'nice' Arab friends, but you'd still choose to believe the stereotype that all of them are mean to their woman?
Seriously, don't base an entire group of people on a few stories; there are always some rotten apples in any bunch, but that doesn't mean it's all of them.
Personally, my guy is Arab and he treats me just fine.
If you plan on marrying an Arab guy some day, it'd do you good to learn some more about them and not stereotype and generalize because the 2 of you are going to have some problems.

I know Islam speaks to a certain role of women, Lots of Asian cultures do (Mid East is still Asia). There are some men who do not respect the role and some who do but ultamately, men have the final say.

I'm sure not all believe a rape victim is a useless shame who deserves to die. I'm sure a lot would go to female doctors and learn from female professors.

The only way to really know is to interact with them. They are people too. Not all Arabs are mean to "their" women.

Some Arab sub-cultures do limit the kinds of things females are allowed to do -- especially contact with non-related males -- but not all. Those who do see it as protecting "their" females.

But there's a growing feminist movement in the Arab world.

And rest assured that there has never been a culture where women don't have their own minds, whatever people say. There have always been outspoken women.

Even in sexist societies.

There are men who are mean to their wives/girflfriend/partner from every culture (yes, even america!). It's prejudiced and stupid to think that it's because of there nationality, stop blaming religon and ethnicty for peoples crap behaviors. I know a lot of white guys who are mean to their women too.There are a lot of priests who rape kids, does that mean that all Christians are pedophiles. NO. i have lived in an Arab country for a couple of years and i wouldn't recommend you to marry one if you do you will make a big mistake. if you were to marry one then hes probably marrying you for a green card better yet if you have a child and goes on vacation to his country know that the kid wont come back, i know, its happens alot and you wont be able to do anything and the kid wont be able to get out until of legal age since they believe the children belong to them, and no that the marriage wont last eventually he will wanna be with his own kind has happened alot,also if you don't have a son he might marry on you since they can marry 4 together and you wouldn't know has happened. they all say one thing but honestly they cant be trusted. be careful.
