FYI, Turner is the Chargers' back-up RB who it is widely agreed has the talent to start on many of the teams in the NFL. He's a restricted free agent this year and it seems it would just be better to get something for him than the hassle/$$ it would take to keep him.

My choice scenario is that the Browns would rather take him than try the draft (most mocks I've read have them taking Adrian Peterson) and they have 3rd pick in the 1st round ---we get it, and we take Calvin Johnson (WR GT) --sub scenario being same but wtih 4th pick and Bucs didn't take CJ.

Hell, realistically I'd like any "much" higher pick so we could atleast snag Dwayne Jarrett

Of course he won't be a back-up. I could (but won't) go through every team and show which ones do not have a back better than Turner.

You honestly think Reuben Droughns is good? His ypc. was worse than Reggie Bush's! They seriously need a back in FA or the draft.

We don't really run a 2-back system, Turner was really just a "relief-runner" after LT had big plays. He only had 80 carries. He was a good short yardage back (LT @ 5'10" 221 is big enough to go between the tackles, but Turner @ 5'10" 237 is even better -plus he has enough speed --however he's not as agile as LT).

miggity182, I think you are greatly underating Turner.

and trident, are you from SD? Because everyone (people/news) here would beg to differ. He could easily get starter $$ somewhere else -- I don't see us keeping him.

if i were the GM of the browns i would make two moves and win at least 3 to 4 more games next year by:

1) making a play for turner at RB

2) drafting JaMarcus Russell.

if the raiders pass, i hear the browns love russell and would jump at him in a heartbeat. even if he's gone, brady quinn would be an upgrade at QB.

Realistically I don't think the Browns would try to get Turner. They are more than a RB away from a good season and they have 2 somewhat capable RBs already. I think the most interest is going to come from the NY Giants and the NY Jets. The Giants have Jacobs but I think there is a big question as to whether he can carry the full work load of a RB. I think the Jets will be even more interested than the Giants. The Jets have 3 capable RBs but none of them are consisten enough to be a starter.

I think the Jets get rid of Barlow and maybe Houston. Then they get Turner to start and have Washington as a capable backup RB. This also gives Washington time to mature a little and make himself even better. PLUS...the Jets have a number of picks next year that they could easily trade to SD. Also, the Jets have the Salary Cap room that will be needed to sign Turner.

SD could use those picks for a WR or two.

If Turner goes somewhere else it wil NOT be as a backup. If he is going to stay as a backup, why not stay with SD?

I have to agree with Big Jim above, it's the Giants and Jets (though that's bias b/c I'm from the area). I doubt the Giants are willing to part with draft picks for Turner; same for the Jets. The Jets did just fine with their running back by committee (though a consistent back would be more beneficial) and they seem committed to building through the draft. I think the Giants should be weary of making another lopsided trade with the Chargers. The Chargers have benefitted greatly from that trade: great QB (Rivers), great LB (Merriman), and Nate Kaeding...ok, well other than the two playoff elimination FG misses (vs. Jets, Patriots).

There is no way the Browns are going to give up the third pick in the draft for Turner. For the Third pick in the draft we would want L.T. Why take Turner when we can get Peterson or the big OT from Wisconsin and maybe Michael Bush in the second round. They people interested in Turner are later in the first or maybe people will be willing to give up and early second, you aren't getting anything in the top 20 for him.

Houston Texans. they're implying an new zone blocking off scheme lower than head coach Gary Zubiak and Turner become be very good lower than that scheme. also they're putting Ron Dayne truly than Ahman eco-friendly. Dayne isn't adequate to be a good operating lower back and eco-friendly is too harm liable to assist solidfy the RB position and Turner is youthful, speedier and better than both one of them.

I think this years playoffs show that a team who has a decent back right now needs him. You will start to see more and more teams use two backs as opposed to one constantly featured back. I think Detroit would be a great fit for him where he and Kevin Jones could make a nice tandem. Philly would also be a great fit with Turner and Brian Westbrook.

Jets, Giants, Raiders or Broncos. I don't think he's going anywhere, though.
