1. I am a female of "a certain age" who was a teen in the 1960's.
2. The cliques, I suppose, were the traditionalists and the
love-sex-rock 'n' roll lot.
3. The trads (male) usually had short hair and wore clean, pressed trousers and polo shirts (or button shirts), or sometimes suits. Girls tended to wear skirts and blouses or sweaters. The group that were into the culture shock (again, males) often had long hair, sometimes beards, and a preference for jeans and T-shirts. Their female counterparts often dressed essentially the same, with long hair and headbands worn around the forehead. Beads (often referred to as "love beads") worn around the neck were favored by both sexes as well. Sandals were pretty commonplace, too.
4. In music, there were such groups as the Beatles, Jefferson Airplane, the Beach Boys, and solo artists like Elvis, Janis Joplin, and Petula Clark--this is only a very small sampling!
Some of the TV shows here in the States were Rowan and Martin's Laugh In, the Carol Burnett Show, and The Brady Bunch
--oh, and I almost forgot Love American Style. Movies that I most clearly recall were musicals like My Fair Lady and The Sound of Music, Winning (about race car drivers), Blow Up, and Cry of the Banshee. Books--ummm, toughie--I seem to recall The Persuaders (I think it was by Vance Packard), and writers like Irving Stone and, of course, Betty Friedan.
5. I didn't belong to any clique. I chose my friends based on mutual interests and had friends who were in all sorts of
sub-groups.
6. Not sure what you mean by drama--if you're talking about stage productions, there was "The Great White Hope" and "Hair, " which was billed as an "American Tribal Love-Rock Musical."
7. On weekends I'd usually veg out with my best friend, go shopping, read, and do homework.

male - in 1950's. we had a farming community so we were plain old country boys with jeans, tee shirts, black leather jackets. we were greasers and wore duck's ---- and Detroit's ( flat top with fenders hair one combed back on the sides ) flat tops and crew cuts. we had Elvis, Annette, Ricky Nelson, The Killer Jerry Lee Lewis, Fats Domino, Chubby Checker, we carried cigarettes in rolled up tee shirt sleeves and wore blue suede shoes, motorcycle boots, poodle skirts and saddle shoes sock hops, basketball, baseball, track, F.F.A. 4 - h. hot rods and motorcycles. going to a nearby bigger town was a treat and we managed this about once a month when we would cruise from one end of town to the other. a dollar would buy 7 hamburgers loaded with an order of fries. ah the drama was when we hit town and the " city slickers " tried to rule over us " country hicks " but we held our own. if we couldn't make town there were sporting events, sock hops, Church activities to attend. and it was fun growing up in a time when the real concern was getting good grades and your family and friends were in Korea. at that time sad to say we had no idea we would be facing our own Korea in Vietnam where many of our classmates, family and friends would " pay the price " with their lives and leave a heart wrenching feeling in the heart of many which will never go away even after all these years.

1. Please state your sex and what age you were and what decade you were a teen
Boy teenager in both decades 50-60’s but high school was 60’s in Newport Rhode Island (close) (from Colorado but dad was a naval officer)
2. What clicks did you have? Like in the outsiders, did you have socs and greasers?
a.“Jocks” of course, my main group
b.“nerds” guys with pencil, pen holders in pockets, short, fat or just ugly, high school was really a bad experience,
c.“greasers”, blue collar, “tough kids”, going to jail or the Army or Marine Corps
d.The girls that were with the above guys:,
e.? I guess they were the “plain Jane’s” the not so good looking: high school really was tough for them, , girls with ‘horn-rimmed eyeglasses
3. How did each clique dress [both sexes please]
a.. “preppies” included a few jocks but kids who wore a “coat & tie” every day, at least a turtleneck sweater, “deck shoes” as for sailing, etc.
b. Jocks: “letterman’s jackets or sweaters everyday even if warm; crew cut, or “military”, converse sneakers (basketball shoes)
c. “folkies” “beatniks” the pre-hippies into Jazz then folk music, girls had long straight hair or a “Joan Baez” close cut, “page Boy”
d. “nerds” dressed like plain one color shirt, dark pants, girls dressed like well plain Jane dresses, looked like Mormon farmers,
e.? Another group: males that were to be soon drafted and sent to Vietnam, included greasers but they often joined up first.
f. greasers”, levis, white t-shirts, poor white kids, took “shop”, smoked cigarettes, often rolled into the t-shirt sleeve aka movie “Grease’, only kids that would even think about challenging a jock, their girls dressed like “sluts” way to much make-up, jewelry, acted “sexy”, a boy “sneaked” looking at them.
4. What was the entertainment? What were the good music, books, and movies?
a.The Beetles – Beach Boys – Bob Dylan – Soul Music – Books? There were books? Truly, I’d pay a nerd for a “book report”, Movies: Dr Zaivago, however it was spelled, and the first three James Bond movies: great for a RLG “real live girl” date. Steven McQueen movies, all those “beach movies”, wow!
Frank Sinatra: “It was a very good year’ – school was safe at least.
5. What clique did you belong too?
I was a Jock & Preppie: in other words was able to go to college regardless of how well I did on the field, but I did fine. But I was “bitten” by the folk music and soon became a “rebel”, besides I had a crush on every other “folkie” girl! Hey, they were the “brightest” girls, first “Fem libbers”, and liked people because of what was “inside”, and went ROTC bad move in the mid 60’s.
6. What was some of the drama?
I do not think you mean “school plays”? Well “sex” I well do not believe it existed, well maybe the “greasers” or whatever we called them.
7. What did you typically do every weekend?
Go to a soda fountain, malt shop for ice cream & a root beer float,
A dance at school or some social group, drive around with three or four other “Horney” boys talk cool but get nowhere, like American Graffiti but more like the sequel movie – go to a “folkies” girls party and listen to Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Kingston Trio, drink coffee, and not get anywhere with any girl . It gets worse we did “Hootenanny”, folk music sing along things, yes, it was a strange time in America. But weekdays we had American bandstand and a Rock & Roll show on TV such as that one with Paul Revere & the Raiders and Sonny & Cher, etc. Oh, I should mention that say 50% of the school dances were “slow dances” “a fox trot”, no BS, cuddle and slide your feet, “how sweet”, and “thy hand” remained on the young ladies waist” well not always….
I’ll stop: enough, I am past my 40th High School reunion, so many of us email, and well we are “old” many of us grand-parents. Scary how fast life becomes so “long”, so fast.
thanks and ill pick a best answer!!

Male teen mid sixty's, clique we had lots of them, still do. Anti war, pro war, dress ranged from the love children to the ROTC's people. then we had farmers jeans and shirts, boots: this group is still strong today. I was an outsider, never did fit in the system of things on week ends we took cars for joy rides-some times we had to fix the car to enjoy it. we never try-ed to harm anyone we brought the car back in the same shape or some times better after we did a tune up on it. Most my old chums died in South East Asia, or from agent orange later in life. I wish I could do it all again!

I was a teen in the late 60's.I wore micro mini skirts, white go-go boots. The Beatles, and monkeys were my favorite artists. I liked to go to dances, and I'd hitch hiked there, we would get a bottle of liquor and drink it before we went in, because we were minors. Thinks like driving into car meters was big.. to get the money. I skied a lot and ice skated. Skipping school , because of bomb threats was popular then also. Football games and the dances were awesome too. We would hang out at a favorite teen restaurant, where we would have cherry cokes, and maid-rites. And of course we smoked cigarettes, for 25 cents a pack. I would steal my dad's car at night after he went to bed, and drive around town. It all was fun and harmless

female
born in early 50's -- in midwest -- protestant -- small town
i remember Elvis was considered to be VERY questionable entertainment. so was twist (chubby checkers) and the beatles and boy's hair longer than 1/4 inch!
bell bottom jeans with hip-hugger waistlines were the thing when I was a teenager... but we did not show any of our belly at school!!! we would have been kicked out.
we wore white lipstick and we slept with our long hair in rollers made out of frozen orange juice cans.
the cars we drove were either used, or mustangs
in our school, there were the greasers who mostly were taking trade-school classes and drove older, muscle cars that they had souped up and customized in their dad's garage. They mostly drank beer when they were at parties.
There were the hippies. most of their parents had some money. they smoked pot and listened to "heavy metal" music... eventually a few of them started to use LSD. One of my classmates had a bad trip and was permanently disabled with an overdose of LSD... it really caused us to think twice about drugs.
There were the geeks and nerds. most of us were studious, had hobbies that included making our own stereos and computers (very simple 64K at the max) we liked Star Trek. We listened to the beatles until they went to India and started to wear their hair to their shoulders.
BUT the big thing that was affecting teenagers from my age group was the divide between those of us who didn't like the draft -- watching our friends and cousins going to VietNam and coming back all messed up (either physically or emotionally), and arguing with our parents who had proudly served in the military in the victory of WWII or willingly served in Korea. It tore the children from their parents in ways that are hard to describe.
in the summer, we spent a lot of time at the beach. most of us had jobs (car washes, restaurants, yes, there were car-hops, drive-in movies, gas stations pumping gas). we cruised in our cars down-town looking for boys and girls. there were roller skating rinks (greaser territory), service projects (geeks and nerds, mostly), and parties (hippies).
there were way fewer movies coming out every year, and they ran for much longer time. it was a big treat to go to a movie.
parking at a romantic spot was one of the things that often happened at the end of a date... it was easier to enjoy before bucket seats.

I prefer hair which is shoulder length or longer, As well as since that men who like women are more often then not directly, they like long hair because that looks more feminine, as most men have short hair.
