I'm a transplant and I thought I would not like Houston. It has such a negative image that we get bashed almost as much as Detroit. What I figured out is that no one who has not lived in Houston can understand it or enjoy it. It's not necessarily visitor-friendly, and once you move here it takes a while to get acclimated but when you do, you see the hidden gems that go way beyond The Galleria, Post Oak, NASA, etc. You find Rice Village, you find the Washington Corridor, you find Upper Kirby and Shepherd, and seemingly on every corner you find another top quality restaurant, grown up locally, that you just have to know about to get to. Patronella's. Daily Review. Brasil. Need I say more?
The thing that gets me is that when you are asked by out-of-towners where to go, you draw a complete blank. "You can go the Galleria" is the normal response, even though you know better. It's just that people that are not from here would just not understand. That's the lure of Houston for me. You can't put your finger on it, but it's incredible.

Native Texan !! I love Houston !!
Blessed to have raised a beautiful family here and I have been all over the States with my Career Military husband.~~~~
If your looking for a spirit filled friendly church and loads of Bible classes and friends then please come to Second Baptist on Voss @ Woodway. I gaurantee you will be back. It has so much to offer everyone. Dr. Ed Young is a man of God for sure~~.
Houston has been good to us~~~~~~~.
One of our sons retired from the Navy Dec.31,2006 and he will be moving back here from Virginia Beach, Va. soon as his son finishes this school year. Three of our other grown and married children live in Houston now and all have excellient jobs.~~~~
Houston has such a beautiful skyline no matter from what direction you are coming in. We live in the Spring Branch, Memorial Area of Houston and we go into town on Memorial Drive through Memorial Park area and see the joggers and runners out doing their thing and the skyline is awesum from that point.. It is a relaxing drive, whereas I-10 into town can leave you feeling rushed sometimes.~~~
We have thought of moving futher out but we are near the 610 loop and I-10 W and living close in to town and our church and friends and favorite shops and etc. have kind of grown on us. My daughter-in-law best decribed me when she told my son " I think Mom is to attached to her home to move". I think she's right.!!
We have been in this house 38 yrs.. It satisfies our needs~~~~
.
Texan's are the friendliest people and always helpful.
Houston is especially prowd of the fact that most visiters that leave here say that. I could write a book about this city and there is much even I don't know, but I must stop with this. We love our choice to settle here, and we probally would have been happy many other places, because they are out there, but we are positive thinking people and learned long ago to learn to bloom where we are planted.

I'm a transplant and I like it here so far it is better then the 9 months of rain from the pacific northwest. The only thing I don't like is the public transportation stinks here compared to other cities like Portland or San Fransico and New York and other major cities.

I've lived in the area all my life......from Clear Lake to Humble. I don't think you could pay me enough to live in the city again, but I do like the outlying areas. Downtown and the Galleria area are great to visit, but I couldn't live there. Yes, the climate does suck but at least we don't have to shovel snow or worry about earthquakes.
