If you have a genuin copy you can contact Microsoft and give them your paticulars and they will supply you with a new key number.
If you have a ellegal copy then there is softwear out there to use XP but you are unable to down load updates. But as you know this is ellegal .Windowes will eventualy stop you.
If it is ellegal coppy I sujest you buy a genuin coppy.
There is no hassels with the latest updates.

Check the computer they may have placed a label on the tower with the product key. Dell ususally does this.

If you haven't changed your hardware configuration since you installed the first time, you shouldn't need to product key. If you have or if for some reason asks you for the key your SOL. Microsoft may have symphony but I doubt it..

most manufacturers place a sticker on the outside of your computer that has the product code on it.

look on the side of your computer tower. there should be a sticker.
if it's a laptop, it will be on the bottom.
no, you can't reinstall XP without it
