Multiple hypotheses, truth as a function of time. Admit it, you've been reading William James, haven't you?

I do not think that truth is a function of time. Either in the sense of "true" or in the sense that the pragmatists put forward (which would be the nearest).

If I flip a coin and hide it before seeing whether it is heads up or tails up it IS EITHER heads up or tails up. Which it is depends upon the physical state of the coin not on me nor on what time it is on the clock.

Now the pragmatists (William James in particular) held that a statement BECOMES true. I think this is quite acceptable if we understand by it that we are talking about WHAT WE CALL true rather than what IS true. It sounds like its a function of time, but it isn't. The statement doesn't become true dependent upon what time has elapsed but dependent upon the progress of whatever process we use to establish truth. Time is a side effect and appears because our process for establishing truth occurs in time.

Yes truth is a necessary function of time for one always believes that time is true, right, and orderly. Without truth as a function of time we would have no reason to trust time and then we would not rely on it as we do. Reason is also a function of time in much the same way that truth is.

In some aspects truth and time coincide- or collide with each other. Time will tell.

“Truth, when not sought after, rarely comes to light” ~ Oliver Wendell Holmes

“Remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers and for a time they seem invincible but in the end, they always fall -- think of it, ALWAYS.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi

“Time, whose tooth gnaws away everything else, is powerless against truth”

“The greatest friend of truth is Time, her greatest enemy is Prejudice, and her constant companion is Humility” ~ Charles Caleb Colton

“All things are subject to interpretation whichever interpretation prevails at a given time is a function of power and not truth.” ~ Friedrich Nietzsche

“Time discovers truth.” ~ Seneca

It seems that there is a very tight knit bond between time & truth. I don't know if its functional.

Truth is not a function of time. Time is just a portion of truth.

If so, then truth, like time, is an illusion. The only time there is is the now, what is going on at this second. That's now the past, and the past is theoretical because you cannot prove it exists. The future is the same, in that it could go any of several ways. So right now, is there any truth, and is it persuaded by time? Doubtful.

Truth is just truth...I don't think it's a function.

isn't the truth subjective? whereas time is objective? or is it? i mean here it is 9pm somewhere else it could be 1pm...... so is that subjective? but then how does truth function with time? or does time function with truth?
or does the truth make the time or does time make the truth?
or will the truth reveal itself in time?......
interesting question
i seem to not understand it.
forgive my incompetence.

But what is truth, is truth a changing law, we both have truths, are mine the same as yours (Pontius Pilate's questioning in Jesus Christ Superstar). Some truths certainly seem to be. In the middle ages we would not have hesitated to state our religious believes as absolute truths, yet today, I would venture a majority doubt those very same truths.

Time is the only thing that determines our mortality.

As such, truth is what you make it. A truth is something indeterminable except within one's self.

As "no one" said, "truth" is just an idea, it does not exist and has no scientific meaning. Time is just a measure.
