Hi Amanda,

No, the service isn't any more expensive for LPG vehicles, no matter what you were told.

There ARE , however, a couple of things you should consider.
Most LPG conversions allow you to also use regular gas, also. That's good on a number of levels.
1) On LPG, your miles per tank average about 1/2 to 2/3 the distance for a LPG fuel up in most cases, vs. gasoline. This depends on the size LPG tank, but it's usually the case, due to the limitations imposed in adding a LPG tank.
When running on LPG, your engine runs cooler and cleaner, a plus. When you have to switch back to gas, and it does happen, you have more power, but usually run a little rougher after burning the LPG for awhile.
2) LPG is harder to find, and in the U.S., most locales prohibit pumping LPG after dark, so making sure there's always gas for a backup is kinda' important.
3) It takes a little looking around to find a mechanic who is really familiar with troubleshooting LPG fuel problems, should you ever need work done.

Overall, most folks I know who use LPG vehicles love them, and I have installed a number of the systems for others. Farm equipment has been equipped with LPG as an option on many tractors for many years, and I don't think you'll be unhappy with this choice, once you're used to the slight differences in fueling.

Good luck, and Happy driving.

Just to reiterate what rider said really. LPG converted cars don't cost any more to service. Its way better for the environment too, burning with far fewer hydrocarbons and co2 than petrol.

However, a badly installed and poorly set up LPG system is next to useless, so if you want to run a gas Jeep or any other car, make sure the system is both installed and set up by a professional. You need the conversion certificated too if you want insurance and inner city toll reimbursements.

I run a 4.6 Range Rover with a sequential Iwema system. I am very happy with it.

Hope that helps.

i have an LPG vehicle- the servicing is fairly low on LPG vehicles (as only 2 small filters need to be chnaged), It depends on whereabouts you reside in the country as to the savings you will make on an LPG vehicle e.g. in some places in the town centre the paking charges are non-existent for LPG vehciles and congestion charges in London are exempt, it will also be worthwhile if you travel for e.g. over 15 000 miles per year as there is alot of savings compared to petrol or diesel vehilces in relation to the costs of purchasing an 'LPG' installed vehcile

Hope this helps

Yes it does cost more to repair but a bigger problem is not many areas will be able to fill your vehicle. At this point in time it would be best to stay away from this vehicle as a primary vehicle, but if your area has stations that carry LPG and you are using a second vehicle for trips outside your immediate area then it will be fine. Note the vehicle will not have as much power but it does run alot cleaner

This won't be the answer you're looking for, but don't buy the jeep (or any other large 4x4) if living in UK.

The Chancellor is considering upping tax for such vehicles to astronomical levels, and servicing will be expensive.

Also, LPG is only so cheap because of the lesser tax on it. A change of government policy, and you'd be knackered.

If you're intent on getting the jeep anyway, go for a diesel.

i would have liked to have an LPG powered vehicle until i saw a firefighters training video. i know petrol is flammable but at least it isn't compressed and under pressure inside the vehicle. i know it sounds very negative but its what made my mind up and all my vehicles are diesel fuelled. i also had a large four wheel drive and really liked it at first but found it expensive. all that about jeeps being safer is not always the case and they have been shown to be more lethal in some types of accident. but it was good fun when taken off road. i would say get one if you want to run off road as well. other than that get a nice saloon with a bit of power fo the same price!

LPG is brilliant. Half of the cost of petrol and just as reliable.. However why a jeep! Why not get a proper vehicle?

Why not get a car?

If you are worried about servicing costs BEFORE you even buy the thing, I would say that a jeep is an inappropriate vehicle for you.

Are you considering a brand new one?Have you asked at the show room what the servicing cost will be compared to a normal jeep?Depreciation values?Find these factors out then decide.
