I know a lot of the labels say you can't put them in the washer, but I put all of my stuffed animals in the washer all the time. Sometimes, they get a bit squashed but once I put them through the dryer they fluff up again.
If you don't want to risk that, just just a warm washcloth and wipe the doll down. If there are stains, I recommend using Shout wipes - they come in little single packets of wipes.

When I was a kid, one of my stuffed animals was cleaned by pulling out the stitches, removing the fluff, washing the fabric, putting in new fluff, and sewing it back up. It was referred to as "surgery".
At least one friend of mine has since characterized this as a traumatic experience, but that's not how I remember it.

This is questionable at best, first thought, Febreez, second thought, is it toxic to children. Sorry, I'm a little afraid of this one, just food for thought.
