I'd love to say I'd jump in without hesitation, but I'm can't say that would without a doubt.
It entirely depends on the situation and what is meant by "step in".
If four guys are attacking one guy or girl, I'm not sure I would. I'm a girl, a small one at that, and I'm not very strong - I doubt it be able to "save" the other person, or make a difference. I'd just get a good beating myself.
I would, however, call th police, stay close by, and help he person afterwards.
It may seem selfish, but I honestly think that's one 90 % of the population would do. We all think of ourselves first. And, unless you're a big bodybuilder, or you have the black belt i karate, what can you really do in a situation like that??

It depends.
1) I would not step in if I thought there was nothing I could do to help.
2) I would have to think the person was being attacked for a bad reason before I stepped in.
3) I would have to weigh the possible danger to myself with who the person was who needed help.
4) It would also depend on the likelyhood of the person being attacked being hurt. If the person being attacked could handle him or herself, there would be no need to step in.
5) And there might be other mitigating circumstances.

Oh please, everyone is heroically saying YES! but that's not true. If the situation showed up, I guarantee that more than half of these people wouldn't do anything. Primetime did a segment that showed a guy abusing a girl and a girl abusing a guy, and barely anyone stopped to intervene at either, although more stopped when the guy was abusing the girl. Also, what about that case with Kitty....something (genevieve?)in the 70s or 80s when that woman was murdered and the neighbors just looked out the window and did nothing...

Oh yes, did it before too! However that was in my younger days....but I am sure I still would not let it go on and not do something....
I almost got my butt kicked by a gang banger, he was beating up on a younger kid. Being a women I am sure had a effect on this young gang banger as to why he did not do something. A older guy calmed the situation down.
Young and stupid I was but just can not tolerate such behavior around me.
So yes I would stepped in did it on more then one occasion.

That totally depends on the size of the attacker. I'd like to just say yes but I am not about to be killed for a stranger when I know going in I don't stand a chance.

Yep..I'm pretty stupid that way.
Once there was a guy strangling and punching his girlfriend in the front seat of their car. The car was at a stop sign between parking lots at the mall.
My friend and I sat and watched for a few seconds then I decided that I couldn't sit there and watch this poor woman get beaten to death. I jumped out and she drove up and ran in the store screaming for them to call 911.
I opened the door and grabbed the guy by his belt and started yanking (he was still hitting her), he turned around and drew back to punch me. Luckily a guy was driving by, saw what was happening and jumped out to save my butt, or I probably would have been knocked out.
Stuck around till the cops came, dumb b decided to not press charges (idiot) and the police read me the riot act.
Considering I'm 5'1" and was then about 100 pounds, it was pretty dumb. But I can't stand back and watch another human being hurt, I just can't.

Yes. I have in the past. The one time I did it back in college, two guys were pretty much kicking the crap out of one dude. So I didn't think that was right, so I threw one of the attackers into a parked car. and that pretty much broke up the fight. Apparently, the victim was a brother of one of the attackers. Go figure.

yes i would because it's the right thing to do, and i wouldn't hesitate to help not just because what if it was the other way around but because can you truly live with your self for looking the other way. but if its a lot of people on one and your in a helpless situation call the police or some one else to help with you scare them away do anything so you don't regret latter if something bad happened to this person.

That would depend on my mood at the time. I might, or I might just as easily help the attacker. Or I might simply just walk by and IF they called for help tell them that if they didn't have the sense to learn how to protect themselves then they deserve what they get. Just all depends on what mood I might be at the time.
