The meaning of life as we know it in my opinion is to be born, live life to the fullest, raise children to carry on the future generations and then die. And when we die I believe that life doesn't stop there, our spirit goes on to another world. Think about it.....human beings and all living things for that matter are masterpieces...genius creations....we are not here for nothing.

Humans have associative minds. The word meaning comes from the idea that a sound or symbol represents something else. We have simply taken the word meaning and applied it to the word or idea of life.
Hense, we tend to think that life represents something else? Even the word purpose implies that we are looking at life as if it were a specific thing that is about something else: what is its purpose? Dah, to live.
What I am sugesting is that animals don't look for the meaning of life because they do not 'actively' make these kinds of categorical errors. Hence, their attention is aimed at experiencing life rather than some notion of what life should or shouldn't be.
So when we realize this, we can go back to living in a state of grace.
Meaning that most of the problems to humanity are caused by those that think that life "should be" or "ought to be" a certain way.
This doesn't mean that I am perfectly content with kids starving around the world. I think we oughta do something about this. And one thing is to keep people from thinking that they oughta have more kids. They didn't get this idea from nature but from the idea that a women oughta just stay home and have kids.
The reason there are homeless on the street is because many of them want to be there; but for those that don't, they're probably there b/c people think "they oughta get a job". Well, don't think about what oughta... go out and get them one.
etc.
PS, you oughta give me best answer.

80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.
I've come to two conclusions recently:
1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.
First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.
Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.
So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.
To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

Life has individualized meanings. There is no one answer to everybody's ultimate question. There is nothing that can make us all go, "Ohhh, why didn't I think of that?" Life has different meanings for every person. One day, you will find yours. However, there is one distraction from finding this meaning, and that is getting caught up with this question. Once you stop asking questions, you start learning on your own.
Would life change? Absolutely. We would all know what our necessary actions must be, and therefore do them. Our meaning, be it to reproduce, to kill and die, or to just live, would be stronger. You would see a lot of happier people. But then again, the meaning could be something that we've been doing all along, and many, many people would be disappointed. But I'd like to think not.

life as we know it would change if we stopped the worlds traffic lights once. so i guess the meaning of life might create a wave. the question of the meaning of life is inevitably different for each person as the perception of life is different for each person.
even defining what "the meaning of life" as a sentence is an impossible task. what is life? what is meaning in relation to life?
i think what i am trying to say is everything is subjective answering the question is futile.
but if i was to answer i think if we had the answer to the question we would not recognise it as the answer and just keep looking. you probably have been given the answer already but how would you recognise it?
to answer in another way i think the answer to the meaning of life is just another, much more puzzling question:)

If we discovered it, I feel that we may change the course of our life so that we may find a different/better means to our end.

Life – it has a meaning and loving purpose - you just have to find your purpose and live it.
I believe every person is here for a definite purpose. Each person is special and valuable; that refers to me, you, your family, friends, in fact everybody! There is a loving plan for each of our lives here on earth and there is no such thing as coincidence. I don't believe that anything in life happens by chance and that every aspect of our lives points to something deeper.
You need to decide now to live for God rather than for yourself. You spend your life on Earth preparing yourself (as best you can) for death. I don't see death as a scary, negative experience, but birth into a bliss filled eternal life with God. I believe that this is something you have to consciously choose or not during your life on earth.
The meaning of life is for us to discover that we are true children of an infinitely loving and merciful God, to find out what our responsibilities are to our Creator, and to fulfill those responsibilities. Each of us is called to affirm, accept and develop the talents God has given us. -

And as we all try and figure out how to sum up our purpose of existence, life passes us by. :)
A textbook answer is to reproduce. But isn't there more to life than reproduction?
I think everyone has a different meaning of life.

Yes the meaning of life would change because we have accepted this way of life and its meanings. Any changes to this present understanding of life would be difficult for us to acknowledge. Why, because people do not like sudden change especially when it pertains to our human origins, our future, and our understanding of life.
