My question is this: I'd like to burn .avi files onto a DVD so I can watch them on the tv through the DVD player. Is this possible and if so, what software do I need? I have Nero and DVD Shrink if that's any help!

a large style of DVD gamers do no longer help AVI format. i could think of considering the fact which you're having issues viewing that it is authentic on your case. So, you will be able to desire to transform the AVI report to DVD format. The utility i'm utilising now's reported as convertxtodvd. you ought to pay for it, approximately $40, although this is particularly undemanding to apply. purely drag and drop the report you like converted right into a field and click a million button. it would even burn it for you too. And this is a particularly rapid technique. (relies upon on your pc and the DVD burner). to transform a a million hour 20min movie without menu, purely a identify and then burn it took under an hour for me. I actually have a twin center processor pc with an exterior x16 LG burner. upload yet another 20mins for lightscribe labelling on surprising of that in case you have that determination, to make your DVD's rather :)

Your DVD player needs to be able to play AVI/DIvX files.

I currently do this for my Samsung DVD player. I just copy the avi to a DVD/CD. Also you can get more on a disk.

I used to use Nero for this, I used to convert to DVD but Nero 7.0 has too many audio sync problem that I gave up.

WINAVI works files for creating DVD's but this is flakey on the Audio as well, I think Nero 7.0 codec's cause this problem, but the are almost impossible to remove sucessfully.

Most DVD players will play .avi files directly from a DVD. I'd try that first. If that doesn't work, convert it to mpeg2 and burn it to the disk. All DVD players play mpeg2 - that is the standard format for DVD movies. Hope that helps!
