What state you live in also varies on the rules.
But, if you are still in HS, then you have to be living with someone who is responsible for you.
Most generally, you can not live on your own.
If you are not in school, then, you are 18 and considered an adult.
Can you afford to live on your own?
If not, they you should respect your parents' rules.
Just know that if it is their car, they can take it from you, if you go and you might just be without a vehicle.
Which is more importance: independence or a vehicle?
Now, if you are 18, they can't call the law or anything, if you don't come home.
They can report their car stolen.
They can take the car from you.
The vehicle and their care and assistance (I'E: cooking your meals, doing your lanndry, giving you money, shelter, using their appliances/TV/VCR) are all things that they can take from you.
If youare okay with this, then, maybe it is time for you to start paying for your own place and essentials.
If not, then, you need to respect their rules.
But, by 18, if you give your parents some respect and don't make them worry about you and be honest, they are ***most often flexible with you.

You are and adult at this point, so what you do is your own business, but it does not mean you wont make other suffer becuse of your desitions, think about you mother and you father or brothers, specialy your mother, one think that you have to get clear is that ther wont be another person like your mother to take care of you outside your mother's house, let me give you an exaple of all you will face outside your mother's house:
Rent about $800.00 USD a month.
Bills electric, gas, teliphone, cable, internet $200.00 or so. (depending on what you chouse to have)
Insurance for your car , depending on the make and year of the car and know that because your are 18 your insurance is expensive, so it will be like $400.00 a month for an old car.
You will have to cook your own food every day. There is no place better than your real home with your parents untill the day you get married.

If you 18 then you are legal in some states to start your own life. So yes you can leave and not have your parents call the cops on you and get in trouble...

As long as the car is yours (it's in YOUR name.. you don't just make car payments to your parents), then go for it. Your 18, nobody can touch you. But make sure you think of where you want to go and that you have a good job to support you.
If your having issues with your parents and these are the reasons your leaving is because of these issues with them, then consider patching them up... because you just NEVER know when you'll be crawling back, and you want to be crawling back on good conditions... not on "I told you so!" conditions...
GOOD LUCK!

an adult legally can only get in trouble if they do something illegal and get caught. Otherwise you're free to roam the face of earth. All you have to worry about if is you care enough of what your folks are saying, you'll consider their advices.

Get in trouble with whom? You are a legal adult. Although, if the car is not registered to you I supposed the registered owner can report it stolen if they didn't want you to go.
