Also, can you name some of the differences between people who write with their left or right hand???
I'm left-handed! The only one in my whole family, I believe! I've heard that lefties are more creative and are better writers and have better penmanship! What can you tell me about it?

I'm left-handed! Only about 15% of the world's population is left-handed, and it's more rare in girls than boys. It's true that left-handed people are associated with higher intelligence and creativity, but lefties are also associated with higher rates of mental illness, auto-immune diseases, asthma, and learning disabilities. Handedness has a strong genetic component. Historically, left-handed people used to be thought of as evil (you know the expression: angel on your RIGHT shoulder, devil on your LEFT), and not too long ago many teachers would try to force their young left-handed students (during the years where you learn to write your letters) to write with their right hands. My dad's teachers tried to do it to him!

As for language, right-handed people are lateralized for language in the LEFT hemispheres of their brains. For lefties, 70% are lateralized the same way, so brain function, when it comes to language, isn't really all that different for the two.

i am left handed . i don't know if there is any one difference in abilities of one to the other.
the side of the brain that is used more often is different left use right and right use left .
both sides do have there different functions. there is also a link between the two sides and this enables people who have had strokes or brain damage to switch to the use of the other side of the brain and as such carry on.
more is being learned about the brain and what each little part does right down to pin point sized area's . i don't know but over all this is a right handed world at least in the west and so left handed people are more porn to accidents because so many things are made for right handed people with no thought given to how a left handed person will use the device. this says to me that we must be adaptive at least.

I'm both. My penmanship is better with my left hand. I have two sons from two different fathers who are both lefties, I had two brothers who were lefties. I do most of my chopping with my left hand. I also eat continental when I eat; the only one in my family who does, heck I won't even eat a sandwich without a fork and knife.

Hand dominance usually tends to run in families. Often if a person is left handed the part of the brain that controls speech will be in the right hemisphere and vice verssa. There is a lose correlation between those who are right handed and who are left brained. The left brain tends to be the logical and concrete said where as the right hemisphere tends to be creative and abstract. At one point left handiness was listed in the DSM.

I write left handed but I do some things right handed.
I am a (technical) writer, so I guess that part about lefties being better writers could be true. I don't feel that I'm too creative though.

Lefties have it so much tougher. Even driving as everything is for right handed and right footed people.

Some lefties, I am married to one, compensate well in some areas and just don't bother in other areas.

I think it's just as individual as a right handed person. Some lefties write poorly just as some righties write poorly.

It's the person not the handedness.

I'm right handed. I believe leftys are more creative because they have so many more problems to solve. for example; how does a lefty convince the store owner to hire them when cash registers are all made for right handed ppl?
