You have it exactly backwards. You go to college so that you can get one of the jobs that DOESN'T bore you.

Of course, the extra $50-100K per year that college graduates make helps, too.

Part of the point of going to college is to be qualified for a job that's interesting. If you lack education, you'll most likely get stuck in something that's boring or that you hate with little ability to change or advance (although you do well in skilled trades). If you get a college degree in a subject that interests you then you're more qualified for a position that will interest you and that you will enjoy.

They don't. People with the better earning potential of a college degree will have more opportunities for higher-paying jobs that give them more choices of life-style, though, and even that is not the best reason for college. It's really less about the training than about the education, which is an enriching and fulfilling goal per se, even without application to the workforce.

The reason college is required for many jobs is most people learn very little in high school. I took some course after being out of college for many years. I was amazed by what the average freshman didn't know. It isn't all a waste of time. I still don't know what relevance the Diet (DEE-et) of Worms (Vahrms) will have on life!

People need to go to college so they have a richer appreciation for history, literature, music etc. I definitely don't find my job boring. Not everybody needs to go to college and some people simply can't for economic or intellectual reasons. Getting a good job is a lot better than having a lousy job. Go to college!

Some people like their jobs.
Some people love their jobs.
Some people want to be able to dress sharp each day in business attire.
Some people want to make enough money to pay for their lives, their spouses lives, and any lives of possible children.
Some people want to actually grow up.
