I started drinking when I was 15 because I followed the crowd - the only difference being I had a really good relationship with my mam and told her exactly where I was going in case I got into any trouble.
Looking back drinking at an early age taught me a few lessons one of which was never to touch cider & black again - it made me puke that much I can't stand the smell of cider to this day (nearly 20 years on!!) and also I always stick to my own pace now when drinking rather than trying to keep up with people

I was drinking pretty much every night from 12 - I stole vodka from local shops and drank it straight. I started drinking to cope with the emotional pain after being sexually abused. I've battled with the bottle ever since, but am now 2 months sober, and hoping to stay that way.
I drank occasionally during the day at school, and when I left home I'd sometimes have an eye opener in the morning. About 2 - 3 times a week I'd drink 3 bottles of wine. I never found anyone who could drink more than me - I'd drink till I couldn't walk. The drink clouds your mind, and I did a lot of things that I am not proud of, and hopefully when I am a little stronger I will be able to make ammends.

I went into a pub for the first time when I was fifteen and a half, I had one half of larger, the pub I was in got raided by the police looking for underage drinkers, both luckily and unluckily for me my uncle who was a police inspector was one of the arresting officers, he took me outside, gave me a huge ticking off and sent me home, he'd phoned my mom up who was waiting for me so I got another ticking off, I was far too scared to go into a pub again until I was nearly 18, I don't know why you feel embarrassed about how young you were when you started drinking, you see kids on street corners with bottles in their hands today and most of them are nowhere near the legal drinking age let alone old enough to be out on their own, we've all done it but some people just pretend to be shocked to cover their own underage drinking up.

I must have been about nine or ten when i started. I use to take the empties back to the off licence then pretend that the boose was for my parents. I used to pick out the real heavy stuff like the small cans of 'gold label'. I haven't stopped and i'm not proud but i don't boose heavily now though.

No I did not start young. I started drinking when I was 18 and went to college and I do not regret starting then, but I am happy that I help off until I went to college. I think starting when you are barely a teenager is too young.

No. I waited until I was of legal drinking age (21), and went wild for awhile. Now I enjoy a glass of wine or two most days.

Even at that age I never did see any sense in depending on chemical comforts.
Many years later my view has been confirmed. I have met literally 1000's who regretted strating taking alcohol....and never one who regretted not starting.
I prefer to experience all of life's events with feelings intact.
