Margins were usually one inch for us, and it was usually double spaced.
A cover page is usually blank, and then in the middle you have the title, author, date, and sometimes class/teacher, depends on the instructor's preference.
Intro should start out broad and narrow into your topic. The intro should end with a thesis statement, which is basically the statement that sums up the paper.
Conclusion should be the reverse of intro. It should start with a version of the thesis statement and broaden back out.

For a bibliography, go to the citation machine at http://citationmachine.net/. You can just plug in the info and it cites everything for you.

Hope this helps you out!!

Ah, the world of research papers has undergone some dramatic changes and my students are constantly handing in papers that are hardly worthy of the D's and F's that I mark them with.

Here are a few tips.

Margins are now 1.25 inches from the left and right and 1.75 inches from the top and bottom.

Arial and Times New Roman are the only fonts allowed. Use 12 pt font unless you are quoting a source, in which case use 10 pt. Furthermore, if you want your research paper to be legitimate you should include, on average, at least 10 - 15 citations per page. Otherwise, you are making up too much information.

Cover pages can vary, but a good rule of thumb is to include a bold title in 36 pt. Also your name and date should be in the lower left in 12 pt.

Conclusions should be extremely thorough. Refer back to your introductory paragraph, highlight main points, and wrap it up. 3 - 5 sentences is rarely enough. 10 - 12 sentences is more realistic for a 5 page paper.

finally, use the APA guidelines for footnotes and bibliographies. And bibliographies must be in Courier font. I don't know how many of my students constantly forget this.
