It stands for "designer". I work at DSW. A lot of customers think it is discount but it's not. :-)

From the original store in Dublin, Ohio, DSW has grown to 223 stores from coast to coast.
Strangely, I couldn't find anywhere if the D stood for Discount or Designer. Weird, huh?
