Ok, I am currently overweight and pregnant, and can essentially refute almost everything that the first poster said. My sister is also heavy, and has had 4 perfectly healthy children vaginally. While I am not showing much, I am also 5'9" and NO women in my family, big or small, have shown much until at least the 7th or 8th month. I have a friend who's 5'3" and about the same amount overweight as I am based on our heights and stuff, and she is so obviously pregnant that it's insane. Another friend is a total skinny minnie, as tall as me, and also didn't show much at all, so I fail to see how it's a weight thing. My pregnancy has been totally healthy, and my doctor sees no reason why I will not be able to have a normal vaginal birth. She's right that you shouldn't gain as much weight, but as long as you're a relatively healthy eater, that shouldn't be a huge issue. I'm in the beginning of my third trimester and have gained 5lbs. total. And, trust me, I eat ALL the time. I've had a super healthy pregnancy!

It isn't true that the chances of a c-section go up when you are overweight, so whoever wrote that is just wrong. Being overweight when pregnant can lead to elevated cases of hypertension, pre-ecclampsia, or gestational diabetes. However, even thin women get these conditions. Most overweight mothers go through pregnancy and birth with no complications at all, as long as they aren't morbidly obese. I was an overweight mom, and had no trouble at all in my pregnancy and delivering my son, with no mention of a c-section. Pregnancy is different for every mom with every baby, no matter what weight they are. Doctors are seeing more and more older and/or overweight pregnant women these days, as those are national trends, and every woman should be able to find a doctor who treats her well regardless of size. It's really not much of an issue.

If you are asking if there is a different feeling in the two, yes.
I've been over weight almost to the point of weighing the same as my pregnancy weight and its alot less uncomfortable physically than being pregnant. Being pregnant is pretty much centrally located...though you may gain weight all over the majority is in your belly. Where as being overweight you heft is more distributed through out your body.
Now mentally its different as well...being pregnant, I'm like "I'm pregnant, its ok and I look fine" Being overweight I seriously had self esteem issues.

It sucks- with the last child I just had I started out at 260,and at the birth weighed in the 290's- I have no idea what it is like to be "skinny" and prego, but i am sure it is slightly easier, my reasoning is that when you are skinnier there is a liklier chance that yuo are fit, so later in the pregnancy you do not get so out of breath when doing activities. I mean I would run out of breath giving my other kids a bath, that is sad.

Also at the end it was *really* hard to clean all those far away corners of my body since I was already over weight and now I had this larger stomache, that unlike fat, you can not squish to reach places.

Also I know it makes labor harder, since you are usually less active toward the end of the pregnancy anyway, but being out of shape increases your chances of having a c-section. I was lucky enough to push out my first child, but after her I had 2 c-sections.

So if you are not preggo yet, try and loose weight, or at least get fitter. If you are already pregnant, try and fight the "lazy" urdge and walk *every day*

about not showing that much is a total lie... I am overweight and you can tell the difference of me being overweight and me being pregnant. When I wasn't prego no one asked me if i was.. not that I am prego everyone asks, but didn't ask till i reached the 6 month... also about c-sections is false... they don't sky rocket... i have had two of my children vaginal birth and there wasn't no thinking about a c section... but about not gaining alot.. the docs recommend you "try" and only gain 15Ibs... but you can gain more if you need too... but its not like it is bad... This is my third pregnancy... prior to my first i weighed about 115Ibs... and was in great shape... I ballooned up with my first child... i mean i had so many cravings and thought I could loose the weight after my baby came... well... i lost my baby at birth... so my weight did rocket down.. but I gained like 50-65Ibs with the first one and the second pregnancy was barely 6 months later.. i didn't want to wait to try again.. i wanted another child.. so i got pregnant again... and gained about 30Ibs with this one... but most of it came off... now a year later... i am prego again.. and barely gaining anything.. i think the difference though is that you get more back pain and you need to do more walking so you are prepaird for childbirth.....

yes lol. Being overweight you can loose the weight, go on a diet. Being pregnant, if you were skinny before this isn't how you naturally are and you loose 30 pounds after the baby is born.

It all depends on where your weight stood before pregnancy. Pregnancy weight is due to carrying the baby. Overweight is just luxury weight. There is no excuse for it unless there's a health issue at hand.

I was overweight and pregnant with both of my childern. They and the pregnancy it self was just fine. I had less problems than both my "skinny" pregnant sisters. I had both of the naturally no problem!
