I actually did this when i was aged 7 when my mother asked me to put the kettle on. She had a gas/type one and an electric one. I shouted to her which i should use and she said electric. So on the ring it went . It smells like burning banana peel ;)

Erm... kettles that are electric are called "electric" for the very reason that no cooker is needed. you plug it into the wall & a coil within the kettle heats the water, without the need for outside heat from the bottm, as in old kettles that whistled on the hob.

Ha ha, sorry, your supposed to plug the kettle into the socket and not put it on the ring.
