I'm travelling to Europe and most of the B&B and hostel websites list this feature. Does it mean that their is a private bathroom for my room, or does it mean that their is a toilet and shower in the room (as in, no walls to separate facilities from sleeping area?

Ensuire or en-suite mean that you'll have a private bathroom. It's generally separated from sleeping areas.
The opposite to en-suite is shared bathroom, or bathroom outside your room.

En suite literally means in the room. There should be a bathroom in the room as opposed to one in the hallway.
