The police say its a civil matter even though its causing obstruction. The council seems to be beyond the law.

What rights can I research to put common sense back in to the council who insists its normal to obstruct a private house's driveway entrance.

Lighting column is 2 foot into the area imbetween the driveway gateposts... with a set of traffic lights in the street at the front of the house and theres double yellow lines going past the house to. The need for off street parking is vital to me and the house owner. I wonder who in authority may help . or might give a toss.

Unless you have a properly constructed cross-over from the road to your driveway, the Council can put their lamp posts where they like. Indeed, it is common for them to place lamp posts or bollards across people's driveways if they are driving their vehicles over the pavement to get to the road. I've known them to do this when vehicles are parked within the curtilage of the property.

The best thing to do to get it removed is do what I saw some gypsies doing in Bristol. They had plugged in to the electric supply and were using the power to light their caravans.
Get your screwdriver out and plug in. When the council realise that the cost of this street light is extortionate they will soon remove it.

Threaten them with not paying your council tax. They may take notice then.
