I really enjoy historical fiction that is accurate historically but where they add fictional characters that observe and live through the events. Two of my favorite authors like this are James Michner and Edward Rutherfurd. Rutherfurd wrote Londinium, Sarum, The Forrest etc. All fantastic. James Michner is a classic American novelist he wrote Chesapeake, The Source, Caravans, Space, Centennial Etc. The books are really huge so the stories last a long time. You get to follow a character's family down through 10 or more generations sometimes. It is really entertaining sometimes because the authors get to add some irony such as in Sarum when in the last chapter a character quits his day job to be a carpenter. The whole town remarks that it's quite unusual because nobody in his family has ever done that type of work or been good with their hands. Of course the characters ancestors had been the ones to build Stonehenge and Salisbury Cathedral!

Kerri, have you ever considered taking a look at the classics? I personally love Charles Dickens. My favorite has to be David Copperfield. I also really enjoyed Bleak House & Nicholas Nickleby. The most recent novel I love is (hope I got the spelling right) by Carlos Ruiz Zaphon called The Shadow of the Wind. Oh and look into Tracy Chevalier who penned Girl with a Pearl Earring, The Lady and the Unicorn, & The Virgin Blue. All her stories are historical fiction or contain historical elements. Hope this helps.

Several books that I recently read are White Teeth by Zadie Smith and The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. Both of these novels are well written and worth reading. Enjoy!

You have to read All But My Life by Gerda Weissman Klein, it is an amazing, touching story of this girl's life during the holocaust. Another book to read is First They Killed My Father by Loung Ung, this one is about her family living when Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge started the cambodian genocide. Then there is also Running With Scissors, idk the author but a very good book. I hope you enjoy these as much as i did

Stephen King or Sharon Draper... They are both good authors whom i would recommend.. Sharon Draper talks about everyday life. You can relate to her characters also. I do not a favorite book because I like all of them. As for Stephen King, he write horror books. If you like horror then you would like his books.
