I have a friend that has one and I have just come to love him. But I can't get ahold of her to find out where she got it from. So if anybody knows of anybody selling them I would appreiate it if you could notify me.

Raccoons make very good pets. They are just like a cat. I don't agree with breeding them and selling them and making all raccoons tame because I agree that they are wild and should stay wild but if I can get one I want one.

It is not illegal to own a raccoon you just have to make sure that you have the papers for your raccoon and keep it vaccinated and caged.

I love raccoons, and had one for a pet as a child. He was a very good pet, and never came close to being mean. We did hand raise him from a very small age, my grandpa shot his mother. When he discovered she had babies he went up the tree and rescued the 2 babies. We hand raised one, and my grandpa's hunting buddy( a vet) raised the other one. They were both great pets. Ours was 13 years old when he passed, and the other one was 15.
Here are some websites where you can order them:
www.brightenfarms.com
they go from $250.00-400.00 depending on color
they are taking deposits since raccoons are only born in the
spring
www.keystoneexotics.com
$250.00-300.00 depending on color
taking deposits for late spring early summer delivery

If you have not had one before you will need a permit. They will need alot of room to climb so a very big cage or their own room is better with a lot of climbing toys. They can also pick almost any lock, and can be very destructive. This is a wonderfull page dedicated to a lady's pet raccoon, and it gives a lot of info about caring for them. I would definetly take a look at it:

Raccoons are wild animal and should not be owned as pets.

They are dreadfully cute but they can carry a host of diseases such as rabies. You should admire them from a far and get a cat. Besides raccoons are naughty clever little critters that can figure out how to get into places they shouldn't. They have even been known to break into camps and raid the cupboards.

Leave the raccoons to the wild where they belong.

Raccoons are wild animals! Leave them in the wild where they belong! What would make you think it's O.K. to keep a WILD animal in a CAGE?!Legal or NOT, to ME it's not ethical.
Besides, they do grow quite large, and CAN become dangerous as they get older. They are NOT good pets, especially if you have children!
Do yourself (and the raccoon) a favor, GET A CAT!

It is illegal to own a raccoon. They are a wild animal. If The Wild Life and Game ***. finds out they can and will fine you. The fine can be rather large. If you want or feel you need a pet go to your local shelter. They have alot of animals that would love a good owner and home. Good luck

unless you have seen or experienced what your friend had to do to care for her coon, you should really think about this........ they need a lot of space, & don't always stay nice....... now before anybody gripes, my sister & I actually hand raised 3 baby coons (there mother was killed in a tree-cutting incident) so we did not intentionally get them, but cared for them just the same..... the only way you can handle one is if it is a baby when you get it (ours didn't even have their eyes open) & this means you will have to bottle feed them every few hours until they are old enough to eat solids (let me tell you, feeding 3 little mouths at once was not an easy task) we feed ours cat food & some fresh meats, fruits, & veggies......... and they can become ornery during their mating season (my lovable Bullwinkle once bit my sis almost to the bone with just a nip, no real reason why) and if they decide to attack someone, they can be very dangerous........ ask a hunter, they'll tell you, an adult coon can easily kill a full grown hunting dog, even drown them if the chase them into a river/creek....... if there is no talking you out of it, my sis & I bought a chain-link dog kennel to keep ours in, it is 13'L x 7.5'W x 6'H & they have plenty of room (we had 3, 2 males 1 female, but the sis got bit by a snake & died :( & we used an old drum (barrel) & cut a hole in the end for a house & pack hay in it for them to sleep on....... & we used some old poles & boards to build them a makeshift "tree"..... they definitely need something to keep them busy, if they get lonely or bored, they become aggressive rather quickly........ oh, & we wired shut the top & bottom of the kennel to prevent escape, take care of the bottom, because they dig just about as well as they climb........ i know this doesn't answer your question about where to get one, have no idea of that, but just thought i'd throw in some insight.........as far as permits, i don't have any, don't know if i should, but check with local wildlife authority..........

Isn't there something inherently wrong with keeping a wild animal caged just so you can have it as a pet?

Research the legal question very carefully. It might surprise you. Ferrets, for instance, are illegal to keep as pets in the state of CA, it doesn't matter how many shots they have or papers you have.

Hope this helps
