We are the world is a good song. It would be important if more people thought about the fact we are all here on this world whether we like it or not. Why can't everybody just get along? I know, I'm a dreamer! **** By the way, the 80's didn't suck! Look at all the good music that came out of the 80's. I had a lot of fun back then!****

True, but we as humans have never been at a loss for good ideas of how to conduct ourselves. We've had good advice from the earliest recorded history that we, in the main, consistently ignore. Sure, there are beacons of hope - some people almost all the time, almost all the people some of the time - but by and large we ignore the good advice. And this good advice is pretty similar no matter what religion you look at. People expect Christians to be unnerved at the idea that most religions teach mostly the same ethical behavior. However, since they're all addressed to humans, I'd be pretty surprised if they didn't! We're all just chickens here, as the saying goes.
In fact, that's one of the main points of C.S. Lewis's book "Mere Christianity" - that one of the strangest things about human beings is that, by and large, we agree on what is the Right thing to do, but, by and large, we don't do it. What we need is not more good advice, but a relationship with Somebody who can help us follow the advice we already know.

Songs are never important! Figure that most of the world has not heard it, and a large number of those who did, had no clue what the song was about, so how important can it be? The message - it's old and will never change, there will always be haves and have-nots.

That song has rang true since the dawn of man. The truth is, though, it's gay as hell. Nobody ever liked that song, they just sang it because like a hundred celebrities sang it. The 80's sucked...

i think, there is a greater question worth asserting: 'are we really the WORLD?'
I am living in a 3rd world country full of 1st world people (Philippines) it is the greatest challenge for us to make our country 1st world.
I must admit, right now we are suffering: from economic & political turmoils, thus we tend to DREAM more to forget the reality, THE WORLD.
The emergence of diff. 1st world recreation (like starbucks) makes us dream more and wake less...
