Ive stereotypes say that Macs freeze all the time, but now that they are mae with Intel chips, the same as PC processors, is that an issue anymore?

The Macs haven't had a freezing problem really since OS X came out... That's a lingering prejudice from people who used OS 9 or older versions briefly in school.

And no, the Intel Macs do not have any freezing issues. There has only been one time where the whole thing slowed down a couple minutes and I've had this macbook for 6 months.

The worst that can happen is a third party app (like firefox) will occasionally lock up or shut itself off, but the programs are isolated so one faulty app doesn't affect the speed of the rest in any way.

Depends on what you mean by freeze. If you mean, do they lock up completly so that you have to turn off the power and start up all over again? Then, no. And it has nothing to do with the Intel Chips set.

If you mean the occasional "spinning beach ball" cursor that the OS puts up when it is working on a task, that depends on the task it is working on. If you have 1gHz processor and only 256megs of RAM but you're trying to edit HD video with special effects, well you'll be waiting for a while for results, but that's the case on any system.

Fun fact: When Steve Jobs started his computer company Next, the operating system they created, called Rhapsody, was designed to run on Intel chips. Guess what the heart of Mac OS X is...? It's based on Rhapsody, so in theory (stress that in theory) OS X Leopard will run VERY well on the Intel chipset.

there are 2 freezes!
1) slowdown while doing something hard... this is gone from os x
2) similar to the blue screen of death on windows. On both windows and os x , it is caused by bad hardware or very stupid program that have been installed as low level hardware drivers... That still happens... but rarely.

It actually has little to do with the intel inside, it's more the fact that OS X is UNIX (buried deep under that pretty gui)!

I have the black MacBook with OS X Tiger, and it very rarely freezes. When it does, it's for less than a second, then it goes back to handling all of the tasks that it handles very well!

I have had a powerbook G4 for over 2 years and I don't recall it ever freezing. Maybe a crappy program here or there (no where near as many as windows) but never never never have I had the laptop freeze.

Macs will slow down to process stuff, but they don't hang like PC's...
