Bare minimum? Oh, about 2-3 hours a day. That's to barely scrape by. Barely pass the courses, etc.
Realistically, 4-6 hours is the minimum to be reasonably competitive. More is better if you're not just wasting time spinning around in circles (easy to do).
It may sound like a lot, but if you're only in class for 4 hours a day, it's barely a full work day.

I disagree with the 4-6 hour per day assessment. I barely do 2 hours per class per week as a full time student and I do fine.
Edit: I should mention that first year was a lot more difficult and time consuming, but as time goes by it gets a lot easier.
