Actually, when you look at most skirts nowadays, slips are built in. Slips were mainly worn just as the others have said, to keep skirts from being see-through or from scratching the skin. Today, though, most skirts have a bottom, silk-like layer, i.e. a slip.

I only have one skirt that I wear a slip under (a white cotton one that's see-through on it's own) and the slip is a pain. It never stays where's it's supposed to. Clothes today are made to be more confortable and convienient...thus, no slips.

I still wear them. And I'm only 21. If I have a skirt that can be seen through, especially more in the sun light, then I wear a slip. If I wanted to dress like a wh.re and have people see the outline of my legs then I wouldn't wear any clothes at all...

If a person is modest, they most likely wear one.

back in the day all ladies and lil girls wore slips. now it seems as if slips are worn as regular pieces of clothing. My mom still wear slips, and I ask her what's wrong with her. She says it's ladylike to wear a slip under your clothing. I say the only time you wear a slip is if you're wearing something see-thru, and that's only if you don't want anyone to see what you're wearing underneath.

I'm wearing a slip right now! I'm wearing this one because my dress is a little see through, and it makes my underwear less obvious. I also wear them as nightwear, to make thin dresses warmer, underneath coarse/clingy fabric, or just as sexy evening wear! It also helps when zipping up dresses that pinch, even though its an extra layer of fabric

We don't wear slips anymore because a. someof us are tramps b. the material of our clothing is too thick c. we just don't like them.

We wore them to prevent our skirts and dresses from being see-through. Funny eh.
that's the only reason i've ever seen them used for.

Well I do. I wear them in the winter for an extra layer to keep warm, and on other occasions to stop my skirt from riding up.

i think because of the types of fabric that were used then and now. wool skirts were popular back then. tweeds were common. that fabric was really scratchy on the skin. now we have softer fabrics that accually feel nice. i wear a slip if i wear tweed skirts. its just more comfortable.

They still do , and they were worn to keep clothes from sticking to a persons skin , and to keep people from seeing through the dress or skirt .
