Actually, if it is getting infected, you should not take it out. The skin will close up around the hole and trap the infection. The pus cannot drain and that'll just make it worse. You should wait until it isn't infected to take it out.
As for your captive bead, I always had a miserable time taking mine out so I just went back to a professional piercer and paid $5 for them to take it out.

If it is a captured ball hoop, then you will have to pop the ball out. This may not be an easy feat with some of the earrings that I have seen.
If it is a horseshoe shaped earring, then it unscrews on one end.
I have had my cartilage peirced twice and both times I thought that it was infected and it wasn't, it just stayed sore for about a year.
Good luck and hope that it isn't infected.

A ball closure?
Like.. a hoop with a ball on it that makes it where it can't fall off?
The ball has two ridges that each side of the ring lock into. If you can, get a pair of pliars and put it inside of the hoop and open them to try and open the hoop so you can get the ball out.
If you can't do that, if you fight with it you can get the ball out by pulling it. I don't believe it screws in so just push it out. it's harder to get on than it is to get off so be warned there's not much turning back unless you've got a pro around to do this.

If I were you, I would go to a professional piercing place and have them take it out. They also can probably recommend what u need.
