Yes, it is fine for most pregnant mothers to continue to nurse their older child. Sometimes the older sibling even nurses all the way through the pregnancy and tandem nurses with the new baby.
Sometimes docs who aren't experienced with working with mothers who make this choice may be worried about nursing causing contractions. It is true that oxytocin is released while nursing and nursing can cause contractions. HOWEVER.....these contractions are very similar in nature to the ones that are caused by orgasm. So if you doc says you can continue to have sex.....there is no reason you can't continue to nurse as well. The uterus is also VERY well protected in early pregnancy. (Read the second link below for more on this.)

Generally it's OK, but keep in mind that your body now needs to make enough nutrition for both your baby and your growing fetus. You may notice decrease in milk supply as well, due to the same condition and hormonal changes as well. It does have certain risks, make sure you take your prenatal vitamins regularly and eat healthy. In any case, consult your OB/GYN, they may have a couple of helpful tips on this for you as well.

Yes- you can nurse and be pregnant. The taste of your milk may change and baby may self-wean...but many moms successfully nurse while pregnant and sometimes tandem nurse both baby and toddler after baby's birth.

Yes, it is:) Sometimes your milk may dry up, so be aware that that is a possibility. This website has some great information on tandem nursing http://kellymom.com/bf/tandem/index.html
Good for you for giving your baby(ies) the best nutrition there is!

Yes it's okay. The only time it is contradicted is when you've had a preemie and then that's only in the third trimester.

No..it's not ok...during the time after your baby is born breastfeeding is a way to contract the uterus back to pre baby status...During pregnacy your body naturally but slowly stretches the uterus to hold up to an 12lb baby...so they contradict one another. I would talk to your docter...but this is a true statement hope it helpped
