I ask this because there's a controversy in Greece at the moment over the ex king's attempting to sell items at Christies. If the Queen ever wanted to sell off her silver etc., could she?? or does some or all of it belong to the people.

The Queen owns personal property like anybody else. However, anything given to her AS QUEEN or Head of State belongs to the State and is kept in myriad archives for the "benefit" of the nation. This includes the crown jewels, her official residences, much jewellery that she wears, the art collections, and so on. She is in effect a trustee for the nation's heritage. Items given to her as personal gifts, or which she buys from her own money, are hers to freely dispose of.
Land belongs, not to the Queen, but to the Crown (State.)

A lot of the collections are held on behalf of the people. Although some might legitimately be owned by the Monarch it is unlikely the art collection, for example, would be sold.
Undoubtedly the Queen and Royal family have many personal items they have purchased in their own lifetimes, these could be sold just like anyone might wish to do.

I am not sure about items, but the queen holds the highest ownership level of all the land in England and Wales.
Everyone else owns a lesser interest in land that ranks lower than that of the Crown.

A lot of Princess Margarets stuff was sold off last year I think, at Southerbys, so I'm sure that Queenie could do the same if she ever found herself short of a bob or two! Hardly likely though as she doesn't really have to pay for anything.

The Crown Jewels belong to the people, but you cannot have them.
