What is a mook?

Just wondering how widespread the term is. I always knew it as a person who tries to express their individuality by conforming to a clique.

I never heard of it before, but this is what I found.
A mook is what critics call the crude, loud, obnoxious, in-your-face character.

Mook may refer to:
Mook en Middelaar, a municipality in the Netherlands
The Mooks, a gang in the game City of Villains
Lesser Mook and Mook Senior, two enemies in the SNES video game EarthBound
A playable character race in the later installments of the Wizardry series of computer RPGs
A unique and talented band based out of New York, NY.
