This may sound stupid but I'm 35 and have never used a tampon. I tried them once years ago and gave up after wasting a box. I'm sick of wearing pads and want to try them again but havent got a clue what sort to buy and how to use them. Which ones are easiest to use?

Don't worry that you're 35. I didn't use tampons until I was 18 when my friends were using them at 12. I also heard that Tampax Pearl can leave fibers in your body. Supposely they come out naturally but I stay away from them. For me Playtex Gentle Glide works pretty well. It's comfortable and comes in Regular, Super and SuperPlus. Pads for me are annoying and I hate worrying everytime about a leak. Plus sometimes people can see the outside of the pad..embarrassing.

Relax your muscles and make sure you're not nervous, it can cause your muscles to tighten up and cause the tampon to not go in as well. Good luck..it may take a few tries.

The slim ones are best for a first time user. Though they need changing frequently if you are a heavy bleeder. You just insert them into your vagina till it is past a certain point, then when you sit etc you can't even feel it in there. All you need to do is make sure the string stays outside of your vagina. You can still pee etc without needing to take out the tampon. It is recommended you change it at least 4 times a day. I never use pads as tampons are so convenient. You can do anything like swimming, wear any clothing and feel comfortable.

I find that using tampons with an applicator work well for me. I like Tampax, either the "original" or compacts types. Like someone else suggested, Tampax Pearl are nice. The plastic applicators work better for first time users, as opposed to the biodegradable applicator. As far as type goes, I don't think that is the main concern. I think the key to using tampons is to find the best position to insert it (read the insert in the box) and to RELAX! :) If you're tense, it could make inserting difficult.

I hope this info helps!

Tampax Pearl are definantly the best. The aplicator is plastic, smooth and round so it slips in (i know eww) easier than the dry, hard, flat cardboard ones. They take a few times to get used to but before you know it, you'll have it down. and like the other girl said, if you've had sex, tampons should not be a problem. Good Luck!

I'm 13, this is weird giving advice to a 35 year old, but OK. I just got the hang of it. I tried tampax pearl and they were really uncomfortable. I thought it was tampons in general, but later I realized it wasn't. I really like playtex sport. They are really comfortable.

Do not be afraid to use tampons. I've been using them exclusively since I was 14.

Until you're used to it, get the smallest ones (like regular) and change them more often. Playtex are easiest to get in because they are plastic so they slide.

You will never want to use a disgusting, stinky, leaky pad ever again.

It is never too later... The easier to use are the ones with applicator… they’re bit more expensive but easier to use, especially it’s going to be your first time.
In the box there are instructions… try even if you don’t have your period till you feel totally comfortable… that means, you shouldn’t feel you’re wearing one. It's really much much confy than pads..

I use Tampax, and the best way to insert them is with one leg on the toilet and the other on the floor. Just take your time. Also, the box comes with directions that will help.

You will want to start with size- regular(yellow) or slim(pink).

My favorites are Playtex Beyond. They have a flushable cardboard applicator and they slide in easy. Also, you should start with a regular (mid) size. they fit more comforatable. As for how to use them, you should realy read the box.
