Besides the answer of "Nazis would have taken over the world (which would have been impossible because even if they did, they would have maintained hold for about 2 months tops)," what are some short/long term effects that might have happened if america did not join?

Any answer in any field (such as economic, political, etc) will be gratified.

so far, these are my speculations:
1.) America would not be an international power and would still maintain its isolationist policies.
2.) warfare technology probably would not have been developed yet (i.e. nukes)
3.) NATO would not have been formed (a questionable one)

the war would have lasted longer.

germany still would have lost...but it would be the soviets who would have liberated europe.

europe might have become part of the soviet union.

the us would still be a huge international power, because we would still be the only industrial nation not touched by the war.

however we wouldn't have the international stature we did because we didn't enter the war and presumably we wouldn't also create the marshal plan.

there would be no nuclear weapons...unless einstein convinces the us to make them as a deterrent to a much more powerful soviet union. although unlikely.

the soviets would be a lot stronger.

japan would be a lot stronger.

i'm not sure i agree that the us would continue its isolationist policies, historically the us is not an isolationist power, we just have spots here and there where we are.

the us and soviet union would have gone to war.

there wouldnt be a nato, but most likely some alliance between the us, the uk, and the rest of the commonwealth of nations.

the would i'm imagining seems a lot more grim than what we have today.

good question.

It breaks down like this...

1. England would have surrendered to Germany but it would not have been unconditional. Germany would have continued to hold all of Europe and Eastern Russia. They would have been fought to a standstill again at Stalin and Leningrad. They would have negotiated a truce with Germany in the end.
2. The U.S. would have still fought Germany because the japanese would have still bombed Pearl harbor, the U.S. would still have decalred war on the Japanese and the Germans would have declared war on the U.S.
3,Most of the war would have been fought in North Africa and Italy, probably in Italy resulting in a defeat for the U.S.
4. The U.S. would have still gotten the atom bomb first and bombed Germany into submission. Russia would see this as the opportunity to get rid of Hitler and the German army and would re-enter the war along with England. So in the end the result would have been the same but the war would have lasted 2-4 years longer with twice as many people killed.

Hahaha you mong, of course thats gunna happen with the attitude you've got. The way your coming across is that you look down on us as our master or overlord or something because we apparently "owe" you so much. Try not coming over here and not thinking your superior to us and you might get on with people a bit better. Generally bringing up the whole WW2 thing just annoys people even more, espeically as we as a country (despite it being a long time ago) sacrificed and lost alot, just for us to be supposedly "saved" by you lot. Oh yeah and D-day, there were 2 American beaches, 2 British ones and 1 Canadian one so technically 3 Commonwealth against 2 American, plus most of the equipment was ours and where did you launch from? Cus it definitley wasn't America. Also Geordie top marks mate :-D

Almost all of America Joined WWII

First the Canadians, the the United Statesians, then the Brazileans, then the Peruvians followed by El Salvador and Nicaragua, even Costa Rica a neutral nation joined WWII the only nations that didn't actively join in one way or another for the Allies were Argentina and Chile as they were leaning towards the Axis.

Now, if none of these American nations would've joined the effort it is likely that Germany would've prevailed.

The Nazis would have held western europe much longer, but the russians would still have kicked their butts eventually making russia a larger power even than it became. Japan would maybe have invaded california but I doubt it., instead they would have run China for some time until it fell apart. This speculation holds for up until around 1955 - after that it's too uncertain. The US would not have developed nukes - but the russians may have after capturing the german physicists. War between russia and the Japanese/chinese would have been more likely.

I would imagine that Hitler would have futher decimated the Jewish populations of Europe as well as the homosexual community and many of the Christian faiths for which he had little affinity. America would still be blamed today for the genocide that followed. We are usually blamed for everything anyway. There are times in world history that require a stronger good to kill people and break things for the greater good. America is the only power willing to do so. We were a key financial partner in rebuilding both post war Germany and Japan. Without our help they wouldnt be the economic powers they are today.

First, Russia would have control of all Europe except U.K. It's true. Russia was actually pushing Germany back before allies normandy landing. Which means Russia would have defeated and would have control of Europe. In Asia, it is little more difficult. It is likely that Japan would have some control of Asia, I think China eventually have defeated Japan and would have pushed them out of China. But Japan would still have vast power. Far as nuclear weapons, Russia would have developed it first, just because they would have access to all Germany research on atomic weapon. Yes Germany was some what close to developing atomic weapon and yes early Russia's atomic weapon was much based on stolen Germany's research. U.S. would have developed atomic weapons as well after Russia. U.S. would not have need atomic weapons if U.S. was not involved in WWII but would later have developed it when they realized that Russia had it.

Interesting question! Very interesting. Now ASSUMING that Japan never attacked the United States and that the US maintained it's isolationist position on foreign affairs, here is what I believe would have happened.........

* Without any embargos on oil or steel from the US (which led to the Japanese attack on pearl harbor) Japan would have eventually conquered portions of China, Burma, all of Southeast Asia, Australia, The Phillipines, Indonnesia, and Oceana.

* The US Pacific fleet would have been limited to only the western Pacific. Japan may then have focussed attention on the western coast of South America to establish bases of operation the keep the US contained.

* In addition to conquering the Aleutian Islands, Japan would have continued into Northern Alaska to tap into the oil reserves there. They would have also marched into Western Siberia to push the Soviets east and into the jaws of the Germans.

* Britain would have eventually fallen to the Nazis, who had already conquered France, Belgium, Ludemborg, and the rest of Western Europe (except Switzerland of course). Virtually all of Europe would be under Nazi Control.

* Germany would have conquered North Africa and taken control of oil shipments from the middle east through the Suez Canal. Turkey, Greece, and Southern USSR would have fallen.

* Itally, an ally of Germany would eventually become nothing more than a puppet state of the Nazis. No longer an ally or an equal, but just another aquisition.

* Without US forces to deal with in the west, most of Germany's attention could have been placed on pushing east into Soviet oil fields.

* With a coordinated attack, Japan would have pressed into Siberia from the east while Germany invaded from the West. Alone and fighting a two front war against Japan and Germany, Russia would have fallen within a matter of months. Countless millions dead.

* Germany had the best physisists in the world and by 1939 had already begun work on nuclear fision. Only though them did the US develop the atomic bomb! So by late 1945 Germany would have been a nuclear power.

* With jet technology, the V2 rocket would have been improved upon to become the world's first nuclear ICBM with a range of over 2000 miles. Other jet aircraft would have been developed, and Germany would have been the strongest and most technologically advanced military power in the world.

* By the late 40s Germany would have controlled all of Europe, all of Russia, the entire Medditeranian, North Africa, and have complete control over the oil reserves in the middle east. India would have been at the mercy of the Nazis, as would the rest of the continent of Africa.

* It would be at this time that Japanese forces already on the west coast of South America would press deeper into South America from the west while German forces invaded from the east. Brazil, Argentina, and the rest of South America would have fallen. Japanese and German forces would then meet up in Central America and head North.

* Their first target would be the panama canal to keep US forces divided. They would then press into Mexico until they reached the Southern Border of the US.

* Major US cities would then be at the mercy of German nuclear missiles. Used primarily to cripple sea and ground forces, Germany would certainly have no problem using nukes multiple times if necessary.

* At the same time Japanese forces would then press into Canada from Alaska, and into the northen US to meet up with forces invading from the South through Mexico. The country would be divided.

* Alone, outnumbered, split in two, the United States wouldn't have stood a chance against a nuclear Germany and Japan. With Japanese naval forces in the Pacifc, Germany naval forces in the Atlantic, and invading German and Japanese armies coming from both the North and the South, the United States would have falled.

* By the mid to late 1950's, 2/3 of the world would be under Nazi control, the other 1/3 under Japanese control, and countless hundreds of millions if not BILLIONS would have been lost.

Now................aren't you glad the US got involved when it did???
