There are several groups of pain killers and they work in different ways, most common to least
NSAIDs - asprin, ibuprofen, etc : Most NSAIDs act as non-selective inhibitors of the enzyme cyclooxygenase, inhibiting both the cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) isoenzymes. Cyclooxygenase catalyses the formation of prostaglandins and thromboxane from arachidonic acid (itself derived from the cellular phospholipid bilayer by phospholipase A2). Prostaglandins act (among other things) as messenger molecules in the process of inflammation. This mechanism of action was elucidated by John Vane, who later received a Nobel Prize for his work
Steroidal anti-inflammitory drugs - (cortisone, +) these are usually shots given at the point of pain and they work by helping the body heal the problem that cause the pain
Opiates - Derived from the poppy plant: The main opiates derived from opium are morphine, codeine, and thebaine. Papaverine and noscapine are also present, but have essentially no effect on the central nervous system, and are not usually placed in the same category as the others. Papaveretum is a standardised preparation of mixed opium alkaloids used on cardiac patients. Most opiate work by depressing the central nervous system so you feel less.
Weird Drugs: Mostly hallucinogenics (LSD was originally developed as a pain killer but the side effects were too severe): these are usually plant alkaloids and are illegal in most places. They are still used for the hallucinogenic effect for "healers" and the like.

I would go to the doctor to get something to help with your headaches. I just looked at the bottle and you should only take 6 pills a day at the most. So, that is 400mg every 4-6 hours. Only take the minimal amount that is needed. If only 1 pill or 200 mg doesn't work you may take two. Do not exceed 6 pills in 24 hours. I don't think it will hurt you but you don't want to take more than neccesary. I would not continue use for long. Find some other med that is made for headaches like advil or Asprin. IBprofen is more more sore muscles and inflamation. Taking it often has negative side affects.

There are many different types and strengths of painkillers suitable for different types of pain. They work on the nervous system to block signals to the brain. There are potential for harm when taken beyond what is recommended, from mild stomach upset to unconsciousness. There is a risk of addiction with narcotic pain killers. Addiction leads to jail, hospitalizations, and death.

Some pain killers can become very addictive. Also, I know that some may cause harm to your liver if taken for a long period of time.
