Are you talking about conscious experience, the mental activity that you're aware of?

The mind is very complex, and there are as many brain cells all connected in neural pathways as there are stars in the whole universe. A lot is going on all at once...perception, emotion, rational thought, image association, intuition, memory, imagination, categorization, evaluation, problem solving, decision making...

If you were to be aware of all that at once, you couldn't focus and think effectively. So the mind is able to focus on only one thing at a time. In fact, you choose that focus by shifting your attention at will. You could be listening to someone, then decide to think about what he's saying and then remember a related experience. Of course when you do that, you miss some of what he is saying.

So...while brain processes are complex, the phenomenon that "manifests something in one's mind" is the ability to focus attention, creating conscious awareness.
