What's the opinion on having to have a license to have children? People are required to have a license nowadays for just about anything but the most important thing in life - raise children - does not require one. They should make it a law that in the event of a pregnancy both parents should be forced to undergo psyciatric evaluation, very strict schooling and other various seminars to make sure that they are fit parents. Adoptive parents have to undergo a lot of evaluations but natural parents are allowed to have tons of babies and nobody cares if they are fit to even be a parent or not. I think that requiring a "baby license" could possibly help control child abuse, neglect, homelessness etc.

This suggestion stems from my disgust about the high numbers of child abuse in today's society. SOMETHING should be done that does not allow just any fool to become a parent.

I, for one, would support such a law.

After more than 20 years in the news business and covering countless child abuse and child murder cases, it is well past time to mandate a licensing policy for prospective parents.

It astounds me that people think that just because they can have sex that they can be parents.
And the proliferation of single-parents in this country is causing all sorts of social problems.

As a married father of a (thank God!) healthy, normal five-year-old boy, it is the toughest job I've ever had to do.
A joy, to be sure...but very challenging.

My apologies if I pizz-off some of you, but one more parting shot: if the so-called right-to-life people were REALLY concerned about those fetuses, they'd make sure that once a child is born, it will be in a home where it will be well-cared & loved, well-fed and get good health and education support.
Seems the RTL folks just want to force their morals on others until delivery time....and then we never hear from them again!

Again, my apologies...but forcing a woman to bear a child she doesn't want or cannot take care of seems, well, criminal.

Okay so what happens when someone accidentally gets pregnant or they get pregnant and then don't renew their license? Are we just going to throw more children into the system of foster homes? Smart idea, NOT. Being a parent is not something that can just be learned through attending seminars. You learn from experience and living it. Also what about people who don't have a lot of money to spend? Will they not be able to have children since they cannot spend extra money on classes and licenses. Are only the elite allowed to have children? Your question is not logical and would NEVER work in a democracy or most countries.
YES children are abused and that is bad, but I have heard of many cases where children were abused by foster parents. These are the parents that took classes and had a license. Maybe what really needs to be done is stricter laws and guidelines for child abuse. If a child is taken out of an abusive home maybe they shouldn't be allowed to go back home EVER. Also maybe child abusers need mandatory jail sentences.

I support the idea behind this idea but in reality it will never happen.

There are so many problems with this line of thinking, it is ridiculous to even pursue it any further. Plus, in our country there are huge arguments over "parental rights" and the right to life and liberty.

And maybe we should give the "unfit" numbers and herd them together in camps.Maybe you could lead us into a utopian society with your incredible wisdom and righteousness.

I think you're just the person to decide who is "fit" and who is "unfit". You should give yourself a title, like Empress and let the world know you are making the decisions now. Anyone that is deemed 'unfit" can be castrated so as not to procreate.

You should look into Eugenics and how it influenced the Nazi's to murder 6 million people.
