It can be done! My daughters used to come home from school and they would both try to tell me about there day together. I felt as though (like) he-he, I were in a tunnel and could hear their words faintly except for the word LIKE which stuck out like a sore thumb with almost every other word. "I was like, and he said like, and it was like, and she like said like he's hot and like"... I could go on and on... I'll spare you.
One day, I just interrupted them both and screamed stopppp! I asked them if they could hear themselves or each other saying the word "like"? They thought about it for a second and said no. As they started to talk it was like watching a track racer tripping over each hurdle. They couldn't finish one sentence. LOL
We did manage to laugh about it. However, we made a deal... at school they could say "like" as much as they wanted, but at home it was not allowed. They agreed. And amazingly enough, it worked! Of coarse there were a few hurdles at first and lots of giggles but they did it!
They are now out of school and young adults. And it's so funny because they still hang out sometimes with some friends from high school. And to this day we still have to play that game. They caught themselves saying "like" and we all laughed.

Hahaha. I think we Americans have that word so ingrained in our colloquial vocabulary that it is virtually impossible not to use it.
If you are really trying, then try to remove it as a "word whisker"...like totally!
And if you need to use it, such as for comparissons...this is like that....then try to implement other words such as "similar".
Have fun. I'm not sure I could do it!

no no not like natural because you couldn't say
"I like you" or "I like the gift" or "isn't it like that?"
so it's like this - No - I couldn't like live without like.
But you're saying that "like" is overused.
Maybe so - but it's such a good word to like overuse.

....unless you're severely retarded, you should be able to control the use of your own words.
If you don't want to say, "Like" then don't. I'm assuming you mean using the word improperly, as opposed to making a comparison between two things.

I think we say the word "Like" for a reason.
There are some people who say it constantly. Everyone knows at least one ditsy blonde girl who says "Omg totally like what's up with that like omg".
